I haven't yet come across any of these death entries, so can't comment on them. I am afraid, however, that I do take exception to some of the comments about unrelated people on a tree. Let me give you an example. I have a fairly rare surname. Over the last thirty years I have been tracing this name from the Essex area through two lines - I have what I call the 'Essex' family and the 'London' family. I have recently discovered that there is no way the two are connected. However the London (unconnected) branch has a couple of hundred people in it - backed up by certificates where needed. So far this year three people have contacted me and I have been able to send them a detailed file of their family. I know this is not my family - but would you have me remove it from this site ?- then nobody will be able to find it..... I suppose it depends on your attitude - are you trying to make contact with relations or are you trying to build your family tree. Peter

I think this guy should go create his own web site and just let people know who are intrested in Australian deaths. As this week I have a couple of matches even though I don't have anyone in Australia. Be ware if you don't have any yet he's still adding and they will pop up.

Hi All I sent a pm to Christopher 6 days ago about my relative who appears on his 'tree'. I received a reply today which I've typed below . He has a death index (by his own admission) of 470,000 names and also admits he doesn't have a link to most of them. Has anyone else received such an email from him? I think this is the only proof GR need that he does not have a tree and that he had no place on this site. I will be sending GR a message today and hope that everyone who has received similar replies from Chris will do the same. Lesley x 'Thank you for you interest in the names I have on Gens. Sorry I do not have a link to most of the people listed in the Death Index. Some of these early grave sites are going to be redeveloped soon so all headstones are going to be removed and after redeveloped graves are located alongside old graves and within areas that were previously used as walkways. Sorry due to a corrupt index in the 470,000 name database some names have been listed twice. I have a list of 600 names requiring checking to see if they have head stones so far and taking photos of them. If you do require me to check for a photo of the grave or further help my other email address is [email protected] I have listed a part of a DEATH index for West Australia. Being a death index it does not show. 1) Parents 2) Who they married 3) Where they were born 4) If the Surname is their Married of Maiden Name 5) Children 6) Sibs A head stone might list some of these As requested I have posted some photos at Yahoo for those people who have requested to see them These photos are for my Extended Family Tree or other people haing trouble with it http://au.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/chriscr90 /my_photos Photo album Cemetery has 296 photos for A-M and album Cemetery2 has 197 for Mc-Z Taking photos of graves has became a hobby of mine. I hope this explains why your family member is listed. Christopher'

Hi Peter in NZ, Peter, I think we all would have info gathered during our research, pertaining to individuals or family lines not connected to us - however I dont think it is right for me to put such info on my tree. If someone contacts me re a surname and I think other info I have filed might be relevant to them - then I choose to pass it on. I guess it is an individual choice to make, all depends on how you wish to present your research. I have no desire to have a one name study web site myself, but I have passed info on to others that do. Personally, I take the view that a 'My Family Tree' is just that - my family. I am not trying to contact relatives (though that is a bonus). I think you might agree if you think about it from another perspective, that if we dont have boundaries on the site then we will just become a site that has lists - and for the most part GR is a place for not only researching names but, people. Mine are real to me and I have researched with help on this site to find out more about how/where/why's etc I also wont go into personal 'stuff', but I assure you, there are circumstances when its not really appropriate to have lists of names as in the case that we are all complaining about. Good luck with your research cheers Laurie

Slinky Report 25 Feb 2006 12:32

Sandra... I think because he is just copying anyones deaths and putting them on his tree, if you have that name he adds in your tree, you are bound to get him clogging up the works in your tree matches... I know its a pain in the rear, but hang loose cos GR Management are now looking into it and it will be sorted i am sure. Anne :)))

Annie, You sucker!! Welcome to the club that I believe has a big membership!! I had the same reply from Chris back in January. The message I sent asking whether he actually had a link with any name, has gone unanswered. Interestingly, I couldn't find him when I did a name search. I thought this could be because he was a she and registered under her maiden name, but from information form other members, I think it is a male. Jacky :-) PS Not had one Australian match siince I emailed him!

LOL meercat you mean to say that ALL GR members are related, NOW theres a story, love it, can't wait for the movie to come out! If this chris is doing a nice thing, then good for him, however, it appears from other members that yet another dodgy peep has been doing the rounds. hay ho, Annie in Spain
