Betty You hover with your cursor over a persons name and you will see it right down the bottom of your screen, although you cannot hover over your own name because you cant see your own one.

When I hover my cursor over someone's name I get http://www.genesreunited(.)co(.)uk/genesreunited.asp?wci=memberdetails&owner_me and that's it so I'll have to remember the right click and properties one. David no I don't use a board name in 'real life' but I don't go round giving everyone my name either, there I can partially control who knows it but on here anyone who reads these boards can see it.

This topic has been much discussed and though I include my number in my name as a result pf previous discussions, I do realise that it's pointless as a security issue. The only solution as I see it is for the site itself (ie Genes ) to add visible membership numbers automatically to the user name, no matter how often the user changes the name, but they won't do that so we have to put up with the system as it is and the resultant fraudulent use of accounts - cos that what all the aggravation with impersonation really is.

Apart from the security issue, may I say that I find the constant changing of board names an absolute pain. Half the time I do not know who is posting, and even if there is forewarning from a member that they are changing their regular board name, most of us miss seeing the post and, in any case, we get USED to a member having a particular name! So for a start, will you ALL please stop chopping and changing every five flippin minutes and stick with the same name you have always been. I agree that Genes should, both for the above reason and for maintaining security and preventing impersonators, make it impossible for names to be changed after a member has registered, unless Genes give their permission! It might help a little bit, particularly where new members are concerned, if members stop posting instructions on how to change board names in the first place. Dee x David, when Genes first started, we did all use our own names, but it does leave us a little vulnerable on an open forum. My name was looked up in the telephone directory, which gave my address as well as my telephone number. This person then pinpointed my home using Google Earth and sent me the images with strange comments attached. It really spooked me. Therefore, I changed my name to preserve some sort of anonymity. If when Members join, Genes could put up a warning about using your full name, it would be up to the individual to either remain incognito and use a 'board name' or otherwise. But there should be no changes allowed, except with the permission of Genes, after registration. Dee x
