Goodmorning all I havent joined your chat for some time but have been reading all your posts
Just as its your time for winter we have just had the hottest January ever in many pats of New Zealand Lovely for those on holiday but a worry for gardeners farmers Brenda Dunedin is down the south of South Island and they have had warmer than usual weather for them Its called the" Edinburgh of the South" with its scottish heritage and lovely old buildings I am sure they will enjoy their stay We are off to Dunedin for a few days beginning of March for a meeting with fellow Fuchsia growers. Next weekend is time for Local gardens to be judged (These are selected by the horticultural Society as viewed fron the street ) Ours will probably be selected again but the because of the hot weather and water restrictions some of the plants like lobelia will be past their best .Although it wont be a major prizewinner I like just to see it listed A garden club called last weekto see fuchsias and were amazed by OH's Vegetable garden No we dont play bowls or golf so retirement hours are spent in Garden!
Hope your snow doesnt cause too many problems keep warm

Margaret ,my neice has been in touch with her parents via the pc and web cam.they have been visiting the family has his uncle have lent them a car,but hey start work in a week or so.He has a job driving (I think) and she is working as a helper of some sort in a home, not sure if it is old people or children!!!She was working in a solicitors office so its a big change for her. He was a driver over here, I would love more time in my garden ,we intend to move some things around whenits warmer. We might get a bigger shed and remove tke two small ones we have,it might give us more room where we need it.I have never ground fuchia from scratchonly from buying them in the garden places.but i do like them.

Morning has brooooken, and now it's afternoon lol.
Sorry to be so late but i had to take the hewlet packard printer back because it wsan't working properly.
For some reason ,tray applet kept coming up everytime i turned it on,[the puter i mean] and there was no way i was going to put the driver in everytime i booted the computer up,so after deleting and reinslalling files 6 times to find it had no effect,it was returned to Tesco this morning and a replacment chosen.
I have no idea why your sreen writing keeps changing Dorothy, but ti sounds as though you need to go into your computer settings [maybe java] to try and find what the problem is.
there is also a size of print setting to do with the mouse and scroll wheel ,but i can't remember how to do it.
Frerd is now off to remove all the settings for the old printer, then going into add remove on the puter to remove all programmes to do with hewlet packard printers, and i will then try installing the new one,if THAT dosn't work, back the new one will go back as being incompatable with windows pro,and i will go back to the epson brand.
Have a good Sunday all,Fred.

goodmorning from a very foggy barrie the temperature went up over night, it is so foggy it reminds me of when I was at school in walshaw years ago when we would be let out early so we could get home safely as the fog was so thick, but to-night another winter storm is on its way. I had my car fixed yesterday as the passenger side mirror was broken and bought new windshield wipers as well, to-day is super tuesday so I will watch what is going on in the u.s.a as it does impact on us on this side of the border, I am having laura overnight on saturday that will be fun it is nice to have her on her own sometimes without the boys, though at the moment she is going through a tom-boy stage no dresses etc, do girls not wear dresses on occasion anymore. looking foreward to the sisters visit next week it will be good to see her. I guess brenda you still have no news re the hospital date. well I guess that is it for me this morning bye for now dorothy

Hi all,
Have you had any news from the hospital Brenda?
The doctor told me my hair loss was probably due to some tablets I have been taking for cystitis. Perhaps my new head of hair will be curls? Think of the money I shall save on permanents!
Miserable weather here so have been making lots and lots of cards.
I wonder what Fred is doing! Digging in the rain?
Have a nice evening

badger Report 5 Feb 2008 18:07

evening Dorothy,Sylvia, fred is still around lol,but has been busy at the sons repairing and reconfigering his old puter, which takes a lot of time when the memory chip is only about 500mg.
Talk about slow,it takes wet paint a shorter time to dry.
I am away back down to finish off and tidy up some loose cables.
Have a nice evening all.Fred.

Hi everyone, well you don't get any prizes for being right about no word from the hospital.i keep trying to forget it ,so it will be a nice surprise when it does come.but I have heard about so many people who have been given dates then had them cancelled at least twice, before actually having the op.I don't think anyone expects to get in and have an op done on the day stated.
Off to bed, in work all day again tomorrow.

badger Report 6 Feb 2008 10:46

Morning all,and Brenda, poor brenda, you should ask your hospital ,tongue in cheek ,if you move further up the list if you are a pensioner lol.
I was lucky when i had my op' for the bypass ,as it only got put back once, but i have heard horror stories of patients being found in out of the way places and closets in a hospital ,dead and dessicated through being there so long ,lol
Weeeell, you have to laugh don't you ,you are now well down on the list owing to the fact that the immigrants are now priority,in all things ,health care ,housing, and the dole, whose for emmigrating ?he he.
What a lovely morning here,so nice ,mild ,and warm that i took one of my breakfast crumpets out into the gardento munch on as i looked the garden over relishing the impending start to the season.
Two years of hard work have started to pay off, with hundrerds of spring bulbs showing their heads, and a lot of plants and shrubs throwing bud.
We took a load of beet out of the garden last evening which i put in a pan and cooked up whilst preparing tea,and pinched one or two as i cleaned the skins off ,ate them ,still hot, sweet and juicy, lovely.
I can imagine the lass next door in a couple of weks as i dig the horse muck into the soil, wow,it don't 'alf pong he he,but ,it has to be done ,so that the onion and leek give their best.
We have already sorted the veggie seed out,and all i need are some Marian sweede seed, because they are the best to grow, resistant to club root and mildew, grow to a good size.and keep well in a clamp
The potatoes from the first barrel are beutiful,we won't need to buy any tatties for a month or two,and they will be used up ,as i get ready to replant again, but this year ,i intend to buy some red Romano, for one of the barrels.and the usual Charlotte for the other.
The greenhouse is about ready for the sedlings, and the first in will be the leek, and beetroot which have a long growing season, and need to be in early.
We still have a load of leek and kale to use up ,so i reckon we will be having a feww champ dishes done, and a few frozen down ,to clear the garden as quick as possible..
Time to go for now,but hopefully i can now spend more time at home doing stuff for myself ,rather than my sons.
By the way,i got the new printer put in ,and it worked at least, which is more than the other did.
But the problem before was partly my fault [slaps wrist].i use windows registry repair pro,to keep the puter on the top line, but ,when i put the printer software in ,i forgot to click allow on the drop down window of the repair programme,so when i hit the scan button ,the programme proceeded to erase half of the printer programme,no wonder iit wouldnt boot properly lol [slaps wrist again for good measure].he he,well ,there it is ,even at my tender [not ] age ,you still learn new things yes?
See ya later ,take care everyone Fred,[the thicky]

Well Fred what a lovelly message to come on to read ,you have been busy!!
Having another 12 months before I am officially an OAP,well as far as the state is concerned I will give your "tip" a miss.LOL
But I do agree with most of your other comments .
well time to get back to work ,its coffe break day ,which means we serve coffe between 2-3pm.!!its supposed to get more borrowers in ,but doesn't always work-- see you soon Brenda

Dorothy Report 6 Feb 2008 14:47

goodmorning well what a nice way to have one's breakfast coffee and read about fred's garden I so enjoy hearing about all the veg and bulbs I can picture it in my mind as I look out at blowing snow and freezing rain, I have a very large balcony and was given a book on balcony planting (in pots) I think that I will have to get it out and read it, oh course I was very proud of my tomato plant last year not to mention that Ian the youngest was so impressed that grandma did not kill them!!!! not know for having a green thumb. brenda I am sorry that there is no news as yet it must be very frustrating. I like the idea of serving coffee in the library must mention this Idea to my branch though it is a very busy branch always filled with people, you can also have meetings and other things going on it is quite a large building, my only complaint is that I have to really push the lady in charge of buying books to bring in more british mysteries I think she hates to see me heading to her desk with my list, andof course my list is always longer after a trip to bury and the book stores, well time to get going for the day stayed up till about 1am watching the u.s.a primarys it was very interesting bye for now dorothy

Just a few lines before I am off to bed.Not sure if I ill get on here tomorro w,its my day off and have to take the car to the garage as soon as after 8 as i can make it,so then can fit it in!! then we have to get home and do some house work and go out to lunch with friends .we are hopefully going to the Lowry which is a Shopping outlet place at Salford Quays.
Will let you know how we get on either late tomorrow or early Friday.
The coffee breaks started when they had more "events" in each library designed to bring in more new borrowers, but over the years the "events" stopped or changed and no new borrowers came in.It also got very awkward when people wanted something other than coffee, which was all we had been given to serve.,as well as a few biscuits. At some places I sometimes felt like a waitress as they wanted water both hot and cold, tea,or juice etc ,it did not go down well when we said we only have coffe.
It was held one morning each week now its one afternoon a month,to help with the budget.
Speak soon ,Brenda

badger Report 7 Feb 2008 10:17

Hello all,and commiserations to Brenda, over customers being a pain in the ass.
Some people are never satisfied with anything, are they?.
I for one ,liz for another would be very pleased to be able to get a coffee in our branch, and a couple of bikkies would go down a storm
We used to have a proper little cafe in our library which had proper people from a catering company waiting the tables, and it was handy for the researchers and libraryans too ,as they got their meals half price.
Sadly it's all gone now ,as the library has been pulled down prior to a new ,bigger, better one being built on the site, but it will be two years before it's up and running.
We are off to the town later this morning to the bank,to have our passport app's signed, and then ,as soon as we get them, the passports that is,we can start planning that month [or more] ,holiday ,and wedding in oz next year.
We think we will be flying over in the back end of march, catching the weather before it heats up too much.
We will try to do the same if we get permission to go over for good too,as it will give us time to get used to the temperatures ,and air conditioning ,before it heats up too much.
I can't see any unsurmountable problems seeing as we are going [or trying to go] as dependants of my Son,neither of us are dependant on anyone for monitary support, and we don't have criminal records[unless Liz hasn't told me everything lol].
Time to go anyway, gonna pester the missus dinner time for a macdonalds, he he.
Catch you all later.Fred.

hi one and all well I awoke to a winter wonderland it snowed non stop from 4pm yesterday till about 7 this morning at last count over a foot of snow but it looks very pretty as the ploughs have not been around here as yet as they are trying to keep the highways free, the grandchildren will be happy all the schools in the simco county are closed an official snow day. I shall wander down later and start to clean the car off as they will try to plough out the parking lot and see if I can bag a place underneath the big awning it has 4 places for visitors and it is a good spot to grab in weather like this as no one usually has visitors in weather like this, then I will move it back after the lot has ben ploughed. brenda I hope that you get the car fixed, and fred good luck with getting the passports done.you are certainly planning a big life syle change moving permantly to Oz. bye for now dorothy

Dorothy Report 8 Feb 2008 00:29

hi this is a follow up to my snow removal story, I headed out at 9-30 and was stopped dead in my tracks as the snow was up to the windows on the both sides of the car and up and over the boot, I had knee high boots on but the snow was up and over and up to the middle of my thighs, finally was able to get some of the snow off, and the manger came out and shoveled around the car so I could drive it out into the laneway, then I cleaned it off and put it under in the visitors part, at 3pm the lot was finally cleaned out and I was able to get back into my spot, I think that this is the worst I have seen in the 8yrs I have lived up here, the ski places were busy to-day as they had 20 inches of fresh powder for those who ski they will understand that this is a wonderful happening. does not mean much to me, as I said earlier the schools were closed first time in 10yrs that they all have been closed, and the weather man has just had the nerve to say that more is expected on saturday, oh I do wish my sister still lived in the cayman islands on that note I shall say goodnight brenda have a good day in bury if you go bye dorothy
