The free version of AVG goes in for pay now pop ups but by ignoring them you are not at risk. If you are running Windows 10 built in Microsoft protection is fine, 3rd party apps such as AVG Norton not required. |

I think that we have been brainwashed into a MUST HAVE extra protection, over the years, and its difficult letting our third party virus protection go.....I have to admit that I fall into that category.... my old toshiba satellite pro is like walking through treacle at times....having paid for AVG, I just dont know how to uninstall it!! |

Bobtanian, I am a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to anything technical. I pride myself that at 74 I can do a lot of things on my computor but am always worried about viruses and hackers etc. It wasnt explained to me that windows 10 had its own virus protection if that is so. |

You probably need to read to the Very end to the Update to see what Rollo is getting at. |

Oh dear Florence, AVG is a very dodgy outfit. Also as I understand things after many years using a PC,having 2 AV providers is dodgy - they will be in conflict with each other. I pay for AV protection with Trend but my Windows AV is not in use. However I think I'd ditch Trend in January 21 |

Now then Rollo am I correct in thinking Win 10 AV will protect me wotever browser I use. Main one is Chrome t'other on odd occasion is Edge |

Thanks for the info. i have read the article. i have in the past had Macafee, and Norton 360 which actually slowed my PC down. But these you have to pay for! |

You need to go to th AVG website and download their delete program. The the Windows defender should fire up again or a message will pop up telling you how to switch it back on. |

Everybody running Winodws 10 has Edge installed because it is part of the operating system itself. Of course that still leaves you free to choose another default browser ... but Edge is built on a Chromium core! The only wholly indie Windows 10 browser is Firefox. |

Ta Rollo. I'll not renew my Trend AV in January (if I'm still on the planet) Hoping to make it to my 80th twixt Xmas and New Year but body is knackered, cancer is terminal and now have probs with heart, BP and very high blood sugars and kidney down to 38% usage. |

Just to follow up on wot Rollo has said about Win 10 and it's AV protection here's latest - well worth a read. I've started using "Edge" as my browser in lieu of Chrome and finding it all ok so far. |
