Cheers Namelessone - currently being compressed. lol. Wired up to a BP monitor for 24 hours was 190 over 70 this am. I 'm aiming to get to my 80th twixt Christmas and New Year then we'll see but I stay active and been doing outside jobs all thro the Lockdowns - still got jobs to do.

Thanks Rollo I dont give up easily did some years with the Sappers, in touch on FB with a lot from 50s and 60s and we seem to be the longest lived generation. The later generation after us seem to be popping their clogs in their early 70s.

Stay calm and carry on breathing! lol

Just to follow up on wot Rollo has said about Win 10 and it's AV protection here's latest - well worth a read. I've started using "Edge" as my browser in lieu of Chrome and finding it all ok so far.

Ron2 - we are all likely to be ‘off the planet’ in the New Year ;-)

However, keep strong and I wish you all the best.

Ta Rollo. I'll not renew my Trend AV in January (if I'm still on the planet) Hoping to make it to my 80th twixt Xmas and New Year but body is knackered, cancer is terminal and now have probs with heart, BP and very high blood sugars and kidney down to 38% usage.

Everybody running Winodws 10 has Edge installed because it is part of the operating system itself. Of course that still leaves you free to choose another default browser ... but Edge is built on a Chromium core! The only wholly indie Windows 10 browser is Firefox.

Due to the fact that Microsoft are no longer primarily a company selling software but far more a services company flogging their lucrative Azure cloud products they need a reliable Windows client not BSODs. Accordingly driver management and AV have both been stepped up by leaps and bounds.

The impact of all this is that the business model of the AV crowd is crumbling. Owners of old hardware such as scanners, gaming graphics cards webcams and penpads are finding their devices no longer work unless the OEM has issued new drivers. Some have eg ATi some haven't eg Wacom. Some of the "dead" drivers spring into life when 3rd party AV is removed.

Windows prior to 8.x/10 had come to resemble a software version of Gormenghast with infinite hidden and unsuspected legacy items all set to blow up the OS or serve as a wormhole for hackers and ne're do wells. New leadership has seen the axe fall on much of this in the form of the universal Windows updates. It has resulted in a far better, leaner, faster OS. Those who dislike change may not be pleased at the changes coming during 2021. The pre release versions are easy to get from the MS website (free) if you wish to have an early preview.

You need to go to th AVG website and download their delete program. The the Windows defender should fire up again or a message will pop up telling you how to switch it back on.

Thanks for the info. i have read the article. i have in the past had Macafee, and Norton 360 which actually slowed my PC down. But these you have to pay for!
I did try to uninstall AVG awhile ago and it wouldnt let me have access so i cant even delete the program!.

Now then Rollo am I correct in thinking Win 10 AV will protect me wotever browser I use. Main one is Chrome t'other on odd occasion is Edge

Ron2

Ron2 Report 28 Nov 2020 20:03

Oh dear Florence, AVG is a very dodgy outfit. Also as I understand things after many years using a PC,having 2 AV providers is dodgy - they will be in conflict with each other. I pay for AV protection with Trend but my Windows AV is not in use. However I think I'd ditch Trend in January 21

You probably need to read to the Very end to the Update to see what Rollo is getting at.
