It would have been the mother's decision while she was a child. To give an air of respectability, the mother would probably have used her Ex's surname. |

Hi My Mother shares the same Mother different fathers mother was Lydia Kent nee Mason born 1908 after she divorced she re married to an Arthur Morris. I have her descendents etc But Irene seems to disappear off the radar so to speak |

This is certainly a conundrum Simon :-) It looks to me that your mother may have lived with her father (?) and wife or at least was with them for the civil registration in 1939. Similarly, could Irene have been taken in by her own father? Otherwise, I think she may have been adopted out. |

There doesn't appear to be a birth for a Philip with mother's maiden name of Mason in a likely place or with any of the known surnames. |
