We were warned yesterday that the thread was about to disappear.

Which reminds me; I must apply for my Irish Passport ;-)

Ooooh Noooo!

Is there such a thing as a Welsh Passport?
I have an 'Evans' in my tree, so must be Welsh.

Oh no - hang on, she was Mrs Evans, she married a Welshman - she was from Gloucester.
My ancestor was a result of her liaison with the lodger after she was widowed - a Douch from Dorset, who took her to Hampshire and abandoned her! :-D :-D :-D

(and that is true - including the names - because I am lazy) :-D :-D

Allan

Allan Report 20 May 2018 00:48

Seriously, Maggie :-D

My maternal grandmother was a Quinn, from Dublin. That was her surname, not the number of siblings ;-)

My paternal great-grandmother was from Cork. She married a Charles Coe in Northwich. A bit confusing as her maiden name was also Coe :-D

It was actually my brother who was asking about Irish Passports, just why he would want one I have no idea :-S

It's the only time he has shown any interest in our family history :-D :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 20 May 2018 00:49

Oh well if we're playing this game...I want my German passport and the French one please.

Allan

Allan Report 20 May 2018 00:54

Well I should be pretty well be able to roam the world without the aid of a passport. I'm pretty sure that many of my ancestors were world travellers before passports were even thought of :-D

You just hit all the Border Security guards with a big sword and then went raping and pillaging ;-)

Mind you, that still happens in some parts of Spain and Bali even today :-D :-D :-D

My nephew's a.................Murphy!
He got his Irish Passport when the Brexit debacle started - just because he could! :-D :-D

I want a Cornish passport.
So far, I'm 100% English - despite my 9.6 Iberian DNA (I blame the Cornish side for that)

Mine did that too, Allan, under the guise of MP or JP - second occupation - pirate :-D

Allan

Allan Report 20 May 2018 01:13

I'm sure you all know the '8th Amendment'. If not, why not?

The referendum this coming Friday will possibly reshape Ireland's abortion law.

Recent surveys say that one in five eligible to vote have yet to make up their mind.

Controversy continues to rage.

Dermot, my apologies. I thought you were on about footy yesterday on another thread ...I hadn't a clue. At the BBQ in the afternoon was my granddaughter's boyfriend - a huge rugby fan (he was at Bilbao last weekend). He put me right - so apologies to you and to Exeter. Did they win, by the way?

By the way why don't they do a scouse passport? :-D :-D :-D

So ****** annoying when you take the time to respond to a thread and it disappears.

If you think you might not like the responses you get, then don't bother posting. Or don't post about controversial matters.

Thanks for this thread, Caroline, one that won't randomly disappear.

I hope people vote for choice. I don't see how anyone can not vote for a woman's right to choose what happens to her body. No one is talking about making it compulsory.

I admire those who are highly principled & have the ability to express ideas compellingly & economically.

Allan,
Does that mean to say I could get an Irish passport..My great grandparents were Irish ???????????

Dermot

Dermot Report 20 May 2018 10:28

Sue in Yorkshire - Check 'Irish Passport eligibility' on the Net. Loads of good informative stuff on there.

You might be pleasantly surprised.

maggiewinchester Report 20 May 2018 12:05

Sue, I believe it has to be as recent as your grandparents :-(
(well, it was when my nephew got his!)

Caroline Report 20 May 2018 12:17

I too hope people vote for choice BUT I've a feeling many will try to influence that choice...let's hope common sense prevails.
