Thinking of you Mchael...you are coping very well.
Can't understand about the test strips.
My late o.h had pulmonary fibrosis and had steroid induced type 2 diabetes.
He was issued with the machine and test strips as I took his reading at least twice a day and recorded it.
Would save the nurse time...are they cutting back more?

This was only 2-3 years ago

well visitors came they were two arch rivals so had one lot in the front room the other in kitchen wife went in kitchen me in the front room then swapped over at half time, lol, made it easier one in the front left which ment we could then have a laff nephew did a couple of little jobs for me which I cannot now do one was to fit a key safe out side for me so the nurse etc can come in if I cant get to door. as the family can as well he,s a good boy will do any thing for us.i don't like to ask as he has a very demanding job has long hours driving up and down the country, only has weekends off but he says don't worry. but that's not the point he has a family who needs to have him home with them. so on the whole it turned out not too bad at all. siva it seems that they are cutting back when I was living in cornwall I could get them moved to somerset the said I could not have them some thing to do with the family pratice what ever that is so got fed up asking so the nurse will have to do.

Sounds as though it is another case of postcode lottery doesn't it? Presumably they would be funded from the doctors practice and they have decided not to fund the strips. Michael McMillan or whatever they are called in your area now should be able to advise you on funding for that sort of thing. There are funds available for cancer patients but you need them to help you apply. Also for a blue badge for the car if you do not have one.

michael2 Report 9 Feb 2014 21:34

thank you ann I will ask when I see them I do have a blue badge but alas no car now I have given up driving in case I cause and accident due to the pains in my chest so thought I would return my mobility car early in case I have an accident due to chest pains better to be safe and sorry. I do have a blue badge but alas no car I have to rely on my son etc when they are available so its taxis to and from clinics . :-D :-D :-D

hi AnnCardiff thank you that's so sweet of you, but we manage at the moment but on the 4th of march it may be a bit harder that's when the wife goes into hospital to have part of her bowel removed but I think we will manage with the nursing package I have in place plus with the family I think my son is planning to take time off work as his boss has told him he can any time he needs to its ok and they are going to pay him, he,s a good boy nothing too much trouble for him although he has his own health problems.
I will just have to rearrange a few appointments to suit me and not them. so should be able to cope. xx

well sitting here at this computer seething had a phone call from my insurance company yesterday evening , as I think I told you that my insurance policy has a terminal clause in it which will pay out before the event .which I have asked the insurance comp to do which they are trying they have to go though the consultants secretary but every time they try to get the report to say I have terminal cancer all they get is a flipping answer machine.
she is not letting the report get to the insurance company at this rate I will have popped me clogs wife will have the worry of claiming in the usual way, which I don't want as I need things to go as smoothly for her as possible, as she has her own problem coming up next month as in previous note to ann above this one.
as for the palitive nurse or what ever they call them self she made an appiontmentt
which we had to cancel due to going to see the consultant who always running late to ring back with another one did they hell so ive said sod em I will just stick with the care plan my niece has put in place for us. .
I am going to ring the chemo doctor later and see if she can do any thing to help about the report. sorry to rant on I took a sleeping tablet earlier it aint working as I got all this going on in me bonce, its doing me head in. why cant things run smooth. for a change.
its now 405 am going to have a coffee then try to sleep if I am lucky, as I said sorryfor the rant not normaly like this, just winding me up all this.

Hi Michael,

Sorry to hear what a frustrating time you are having. Annoying for you when you have achieved so much in the last few weeks but try not to let it get to you too much. Easy for me to say I know, but it won't help your treatment if your stress levels are up in the air. Stay as calm as you can and think how much you have achieved already. You've been brilliant and are a real inspiration to us all.

I hope you have managed to get some sleep and that things look a bit better today.

Thinking of you,
Vera

Hello Michael.

Sorry to hear how stressed you are feeling regarding your insurance claim. :-(

I wonder if your own GP may be able to contact the consultant on your behalf as you are having no satisfaction going through his/her secretary. I know you have said that you have been given your doctor's direct number so maybe if you talk to him he maybe able to get things moving for you.

All best wishes

Hello Michael, that's just so irritating and frustrating for you when you can't get hold of the Consultant's secretary and then the palliative care team seem to have disappeared (yet again!). Perhaps you could leave your name and telephone number and ask the Consultant's secretary to ring you back, then you could share your concerns re: Insurance matters with her. Could you contact your own doctor.

You have a good family support team around you so do try to slow down and calm down...... coffee won't help to get you to sleep, so maybe try a warm milk drink and see if this will help you to relax in the middle of the night. Not easy when you worry.

Moan and rant whenever you feel like it Michael, it won't alter the situation but it will help you to feel better,.. a trouble shared is a trouble halved.., and I think that's true.XX

thank you all for your kind replys well the wife spoke to the receptionist to day its looks like the forms got lost in the post flipping post office any way the receptionist is going to call them today so should get sorted. I did get to sleep about five for about 5hrs better than nothing, so hopefully no more problems I hope. on the lighter side my son is moving in to his flat in the next couple of days.
I hope he will be happy there but will still see him every day after work. :-D :-D :-D

Hi Michael - I am pleased you managed to get a few hours sleep as sleep is very important, and hopefully once the receptionist has spoken with the insurers that side of things will get sorted out quickly and will be one less thing for you to worry about, take care and get plenty of rest.

Best wishes - Jim

Glad it looks as though the insurance problem is sorted but it is very disappointing about McMillan or Palliative care whatever. Not what you normally expect from them is it? It is not so much the care but the help you should be getting with finances, travel etc. Good job your niece has put a care plan together for you.

Try not to get stredded over things though. you need your strength to cope with the chemo and stress won't help. Thinking of you still.

Hopefully, another job you can cross off your list Michael. It is mega irritating to have to chase people to do what they are paid to do, and so draining in energy too.

Take it easy now and I hope you manage to get a decent nights sleep. xxx
