Sorry I meant to respond to you Nolls. I think the difference is that I speak to you as Nolls, not NollsinHarrogate, a small difference I know. Same with you Kemp I use Kemp not KempinaPartyhat because I think it looks more friendly.

I have an excellent memory for faces, not so good with names. I try to link the face to the name by some sort of association, this is not always easy on GR. Twice this week I have replied to PMs and used the wrong name, I even managed to change the sex of one person. Fortunately these lovely people saw the funny side and excepted my excuse of yet another senior moment as the reason for my faux pas.

I shortened my name as there was already one regular poster on the Find Ancestors board with the same name, plus there were no avatars then so could easily get confused....also I did not like it :-D

I do find it amusing when people read the name and add the "in" or "ina"

as in Annin, Sylviain and Kempina

Edit - Also I wouldn't expect anyone, even those who know me off site to call me anything other than my board name unless I have signed something else

I can replay videos in my head of jobs I did 50 years ago, the folks around, what was said, weather, etc, but I honestly can't tell you what I had for breakfast at the weekend.

I certainly don't mean it to sound rude if I do address you as AnninGlos, rather the opposite in fact, as to me it seems friendly to use your board name. Oooops :-)

I also find it odd on FB when it puts my whole name including surname. I realise that is automatic so prevent it when talking to somebody I put a full stop after their first name. that prevents the surname being added.

I have to say that Persephone, Perse, calls me glossy Ann and that makes me chuckle and I like it. Anyway not grouchy now, had hospital appointment and any treatment delayed until October after our holiday.

I think I call you Ann, unless there is more than one Ann on the thread and I need to specify which one I mean.

As an aside, have you considered contacting genes and asking if they can insert the spaces in you name for you? They may be able to do something techy that you can't. Unless of course you're happy to remain without the spaces.

Well my name certainly isn't Motown!

When I write PM's to people like Island, Wend, Cooper and other lovely people, I do sign my name, or least a diminutive of it! But no one calls me it on general threads. Which is the way I like it.

I was origianlly Sylvia ................... but there was another Sylvia with quite a nasty reputation and I was mistaken for her,

so I quickly changed my Board name to Sylvia (in Canada), then GR wouldn't allow ( )

So I became Sylvia in Canada

GR soon would not allow that

so I became SylviaInCanada ................ after having tried SylviainCanada ......... which looks much worse!


I do wish GR would bring back the ability to have spaces or parentheses in Board names



I often sign my posts as Sylvia, especially when it is the first contact with someone


Like Ann ........ I really do not like being addressed as SylviaInCanada ................ especially if I have signed as Sylvia.

Equally, I like to be distinguished from any other Sylvia on the site. :-D
