AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 15 Aug 2013 10:01

Which I have had since the beginning. But I do get irritated when people seem to think that is my given name. Some people have board names and we can only address them by that name as we know no different. Others have a board name and we know their real name so we use that.

My name is not actually AnninGlos, my name is Ann. Maybe I am getting old and crochety (must be the birthday) But I wish when people address me directly they would call me Ann not Anninglos which sounds unfriendly to me. The only time I can understand is when there are more than one Ann on the thread (yes I know it happens.)

I always use Ann for you and AnnC for our Welshy Ann if I'm making a direct reply,,,,,,,,,

must be age related Ann-------- ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D.

Not sure there is a problem as you choose your board name and how is anyone supposed to know if you are Ann or that is a middle name etc

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 15 Aug 2013 10:11

I don't post/respond much on this board, but on other Genes boards I will use the board name given by the poster, if I need to refer to their post, unless they 'sign' their posts with a first name, or are commonly addressed by a first name by other posters.

I'm happy to use my first name :-)

I have done ever since I joined the site in 2007

Mayfield Report 15 Aug 2013 10:21

I agree exactly with Kucinta, some board names are over long and you might shorten them to initials, perhaps if you correspond a number of times and see a name at the end you may use it, but in no way do I intend to be unfriendly by simply using the board name the poster has chosen for themselves.

Mayfield, (which ‘ain’t my real name ;-))

Somebody "in the sunshine" beefed at me for using her full board name. And I have been told off for not using full board names too.

Easy way out is for all to have a board name that includes the ending "would like to be addressed as........."

My new board name will be JohnLovesFletcherfofMadelyandwouldliketobeaddressedasHandsome ;-)

I call you AnnGlos if I want to differentiate you from another Ann but I hope I usually call you Ann.

Maybe if you sign yourself Ann at the end of a text then we would know what to call you I have started signing my name (if I remember) and though it's not much better than my board name it's what I'm called :-D

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 15 Aug 2013 11:30

I have been addressed in my full board name when I would think , to me!! ,that its obvious I am Shirley , but its doesn't really worry me .

I can get crochety tho on other things like nieces and nephews not addressing me as Auntie or Aunt but using my name only . to me its disrespectful as I am a senior member of the family .

Shirley !!!

Ann

I b elieve i recently addressed you as Ann Glos, maybe if you had a space between Ann and inGlos, it would be a bit clearer to some, as i have seen similar mis understandings in names where a first name, and something else all together.
Hope this makes sense.!!
Sue :-D

GinN Report 15 Aug 2013 12:01

Ann, yes, I can understand, but, like most, I use your full board name because there is at least one other Ann. I called myself Lynda when I first joined, but as there was already a Lynda and a Lyndi, I changed it. Anyway, I'm proud to be called a Geordie! :-D

AnninGlos Report 15 Aug 2013 12:19

Sorry, was not really being angry about it, as I said just a bit chochety. I actually am often referred to as AnnG and that is fine as I speak to Ann Cardiff as AnnC. I really don't mind if it is people who I don't have much contact with as with some who have responded on here. It is those who I am in a lot of contact with, those who I have 'known' on the boards for 10 years or so and those who know my name is Ann that it feels unfriendly. Kay, Gwynne you do always use Ann.

GiN I used to call you Lynda (easy to remember because it is my daughters name but started to call you GiN when others did.

I am usually in such a rush that I forget to sign off at the ends of threads.

To my knowledge there is myself, **Ann**, Annin Cardiff and also anotherAnneinGlos. If I could put spaces I would, I used to have spaces but Genes won't allow that now.

John, no mistaking you, just John is easier than the mouthful that is your name.

Lynda yes I said I was crochety, and definitely after having a birthday, old!!. Something to do with having to go to tescos (done that), and then visit the hospital late this afternoon for a follow up appointment. :-)

Mine's quite old too - in the early days, posters always seemed to ask where you lived so it was easier to put it in the board name! Now can't be bothered to change, there are at least 2 other 'sheilas' on here.

My main annoyance is people calling me 'Shirley' - don't think it's happened on here but is suprisingly frequent in real life :-(

'Emma' Report 15 Aug 2013 12:27

I call you Ann but you are not alone in wee things that annoy.

Me its being GG or GG1 .....I sign off Emma so would not be
offended if people I've never spoken/have spoken to call me
Emma in fact would prefer it.

Emma :-)

AnninGlos Report 15 Aug 2013 12:30

I think and hope I always call you Emma don't I? GG is a bit horsey isn't it?

I do appreciate that some people hide begind a board name for personal reasons and that is fine, that is their choice.

Is it your birthday today Ann?

Happy birthday if it is :-D

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 15 Aug 2013 12:38

My middle name, which I am called, is Suzanne, but there are others on here with that name. I don't mind being shortened to Sue, but there are lots of people called that, so I decided not to sign my posts at all. Besides, I quite like being called Andysmum - it's what his school friends used to call me.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 15 Aug 2013 12:39

Yes you call me Emma and like you if people don't
Want folk to know their name fine by me.
I never use anyone's real name on the boards if they
are in touch with me by email and they don't use it on the
site themselves.

Emma :-)
