I cannot read into mind of this lady, but that £16k may represent a part of her income. Perhaps she is getting 2% on a 12 month notice account and the £320 interest is factored in as part of her income.

If she then has to bite into her £16k to pay these bills, her £16k depletes slowly at first but within a very few years she will have little capital left and hardly any interest.

It is a class thing perhaps. Spend the interest on your savings, but never touch the capital is middle class. Spend everything you've got, sell an equity share in your house and get Mr Duncan Smith to eventually bail you out is not the way many of us were taught.

May I have an apology and retraction please John?

Has anyone considered that this story probably has a lot more to it than what has been reported, I.e maybe the lady in question is mentally unstable, or has other problems? I don't think I've ever read a story in a newspaper that prints all the facts, or for that matter the whole truth. :-D

John,
Have you factored in the tax deducted on her interest ....

Have to agree though ...
That If you spend from savings ... they deplete - have noticed that phenomenon myself , many times .....

Perhaps, it is the class thing ... And, . she wants to spend the net interest fom her capital - on online bingo ..... who knows .....

And why speculate John ...... She has stated she wants the capital for future repairs on her house

And bye the bye ... iI shall be writing to Norfolk CC asking why her 3 bedroomed spilt level house detached house ...

Is in a lower CT bracket than my 2 bed, one level detached bungalow

A couple of years ago she states she was getting £9000 in pensions....surely she can afford council tax out of that?

~Lynda~

~Lynda~ Report 19 Jul 2013 21:22

Well she's spending her money keeping herself glam then, good for her :-D

The reason I said about her mental state was, we have a local man, who is "not the same as the rest of us" he's a great charachter, always happy, it's a treat to see him, brightens the day he does, but if he didn't pay his way, I don't know what a court could do with him, I think he's so liked, locals would probably pay his fines :-D

wish I had 16K - I have no savings left whatsoever

and as Errol says John - where's the apology from you to him and OFITG

second thoughts Errol - you won't get one - I never got one for being called idle and apathetic by him

Diversionary tactics sometimes work but not in this case.

This person needs to look at themselves and realise how ridiculous they are coming across.

The woman this thread is about I mean of course lest it be taken any other way.
(why do I always have to qualify everything I say these days) ;-)

This article from two years back explains a bit more, in that June hasn't got much worth the bailiffs while taking. She has been campaigning locally for years and fighting for this cause she believes in.

As she said she could have spent £3000 and then claimed benefits but didn't want to do that, just wanted to be able to manage on whatever income she has, maybe only basic state pension and some work pension from her own work or a husband's.

I seem to recall that a while back she wanted to go to prison and was angry that someone paid her bill for her.

eRRolSheep Report 19 Jul 2013 23:46

Liz she is on a superannuation based pension - she earns a lot more than many retired people.

As said earlier, her complaint is not based on her actual savings or income. That being the case, she should pay her dues like the rest of society and complain through the proper channels.

If it wasn't for taxes and so on she wouldn't even have the enviable pension she is now drawing.

To cap it all, it would appear that she was quite happy to accept an anonymous person paying her previous taxes. She accepted that. If she wants to make a stand then pay back that generous payment. It is nonsense. She claims that she is doing this because she disagrees with the system etc but she is quite happy for someone else to pay? That does not work in my book. Either she agrees with this tax or she does not. Someone paying her council tax and her accepting it means that she agrees with it in principle. Double standards - or some may even say con artist?

I am not defending her actions, just adding info altho I must say I didn't read right through the thread, it's too long. I just know I have seen a lot about this lady in our local papers and news for years now. She doesn't live that far from me.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 20 Jul 2013 08:19

Can I just make a point this morning about this risible request for an apology. No, you will most certainly not get one from me.

I made some points on this thread - some I admit were off topic. But I have sympathy for older people (rich and poor) on fairly fixed incomes when bills skyrocket - usually through poor management imo. We can go out and get a second or third job, or try to get some overtime. They usually cannot increase their income at all. And a large tranche of elderly people (yes, I do know that as an absolute fact before someone tries to bait me) prefer not to go down the route of being means tested to get their dues under this ridiculously complicated welfare system.

To have OFITG and Errol both then coming on to say - not that they disagree - but that I am hijacking this thread was deeply insulting and rude. And to claim I owe an apology to them is also, imo, deeply insulting and rude. They both said they would not contribute any more - so why did they? and why have they since? Baiting comes to mind :-(

If any poster does not want to contribute to a thread that I or any other poster has made a comment about, why don't they just retire gracefully. Why make a public flourish of leaving a thread? :-S Rose, myself and a couple of others were having a dialogue, trialogue. No one was hijacking and changing the subject - only OFITG early on in thread by suggesting the lady was bunged money by the Daily Mail.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 20 Jul 2013 08:24

where did they say you were hijacking the thread?

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 20 Jul 2013 08:28

It would be interesting to hear what CupCakes thinks of their antics. I claim the thread was hijacked early on by OFITG and others, and have asked OFITG for his definition of hijacking. Only reason I came on this thread was because I was so fed up of seeing post after post having a go at the Opening Poster and not the subject matter.
