I really enjoyed Sarah Millican's programme. She showed a different side to her personality, and her voice was a lot less strident than when she does her stand up routine. She's a fine Geordie lass! :-D :-D

She certainly is. Sarah had no frills about her really down
to earth. I was so impressed when she tried on the diving
suit and walked in the steps of her 4xgrt grandfather in
Canada.

I thought the episode with Sarah in was probably one of the better ones.

Trudging through all that snow, and her willingness to try the diving suite was really admirable, all in all an enjoyable episode.

I enjoyed Sarah's programme, as I guessed I would, as my maternal ancestors originated from Holy Island way,as fishermen,then coming to live in North Shields in the 1800s.

Couldn't help but be impressed at how proud Sarah was of her family. Jack and John were very brave men who lived and worked in dangerous places. It was very moving watching her reading of their tales.

Also nice to see a glimpse of Tynemouth village, must pop along to see historian, love to have her print my tree. So good. :-D

when she broke down reading about the
children who were left orphans. Very moving.

I saw the Sarah Millican episode of WDYTYA (haven't seen it for ages, I felt it was starting to get same-old-same-old). This episode I thoroughly enjoyed....what an interesting background she has.

I'm happy to see any of the chosen 'celebrities' develop a genuine interest, and I felt that she really cared about those ancestors of hers, just like we (GR folk) do.
I admired her for trying on the diver's suit, having a go in the snow shoes, and wanting to see the ice fishing....good on her, she's obviously a lass who hasn't let stardom go to her head and is not afraid of breaking a fingernail, so to speak :-0

I also admired those family trees which had been drawn up for her, very nice! :-)

Must agree about the family tree which had been drawn for her, someone has a talent and I had wished that I could write as beautifully as the person who had produced it. Very nice.

I also enjoyed the program, but felt a bit queasy watching her in the diving suit, just imagine being 60 feet under the water wearing it......shudders... -jl

Janet - There are many brilliant calligraphists in Geordieland and I wish I was one of them. I would have my family tree framed if it looked like Sarah Millican's tree.

mine looks a lot prettier than that one John, its got some photos and ref's vol numbers for BDM's and written information of their lives at time...where they worked how they lived and so on :-D

Hayley :-D It would be very interesting to look at your tree as I am sure it would give me loads of presentation ideas. I am even toying with the idea of learning calligraphy and trying to do my trees like the lady did for Sarah Millican.

On Halle Berry's tree, I did note that a 9 x gt grandfather was BEAMSLEY in Boston. I remember from another WDYTYA (may have been Richard Madely's Canadian mother's family) that this same man was featured. He seemed to be one of the earliest settlers in Boston area.

Last of the series next week with John Simpson the
BBC world affairs editor.
He thought his grt grandfather was Samuel Franklin Cody,
the Wild West entertainer who also was the first person in
Britain to conduct a powered flight, this was not the case.

Marianne was quite lovely still, I thought. Had a pleasant surprise. I thought she looked better than she did 20 years ago. And wasn't she tiny?

But so upset by the content. Her poor mother and grandmother. I just could not imagine in my wildest nightmares 100,000 women in Vienna being treated like that at end of WW2. :-0 :-0
