But Janet that has always been Una's way of speech, even when playing in " Till death Us Do Part" she's not a young lass anymore but hasn't changed :-D

Roger Report 24 Jul 2013 22:27

Ok but I hope it gets better.

But I wish it was as simple to go into the records offices and get the certificates like they do.

I don't think it's especially a 'Frank Spencer' thing? lots of ladies wore them long before he did, and they became very popular again in the early 80s(?) . I know they didn't suit me, but my mum looked rather a blast in hers :-)

ButtercupFields

ButtercupFields Report 24 Jul 2013 22:29

My Grandma always wore one and she looked quite racy :-D

Joan that must have given you quite a turn when you saw Rose St on the cert.

Did you have any idea of the history of the original household at 45 & 50?

Janet

Janet Report 24 Jul 2013 22:32

Haha well she obviously annoyed me a lot more than you guys............ although I still have to watch !

Mauatthecoast Report 24 Jul 2013 22:34

It's Una's style and I think she looks great :-D and just loved the Dairy box advert....and the chocs at the time mmm

Roger certs. are easy to obtain if you're in the offices (area) where family actually lived.
edit: From my experience anyway.

Hi BC..... it was brilliant seeing the old street,

Hi Lolly.... only that No 45 was the Dealtry family when I was there, no 50 I think was the Rennison family in my day.

If we ever ran short of milk my mam would send me over to ask Mrs Rennison if she had a spare pint of milk we could buy & she always did have, LOL.

Think I might watch it all again just to see the street, LOL.
Oh yes & I could also pause the film clip of the Rowntree workers leaving the factory, my mam & step father worked there, they just might be amongst them lol.

Joan.

Janet Report 24 Jul 2013 22:49

OK thanks,

I still love watching it, although I do tend to shout at the screen now once in a while cos I fear they make some of it up when they don't really know for sure.?

In fact when Julian Clary was on I think they made most of it up !

BC ~~~~~ Thought it was my comp playing up, was about to do a scan, then I see from your post it's not just mine running slow :-(

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 24 Jul 2013 22:58

Janet - I remember Julian Clary and "Herman the German" lol.

I was not put off by Una Stubbs voice or clothes or attitude. Think that she is great for seventyfive. :-D

Programme was interesting too. The contrast between her paternal and maternal tree was of special interest. I wonder how her parents met, under what circumstances?

Wonder what happened to Eliza? Anyone any idea?

Mauatthecoast Report 24 Jul 2013 22:58

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 24 Jul 2013 23:01

Joan, it must have been a real surprise to see "the street where you live/d"

Bought back memories for you I see. I wonder how many of your old neighbours saw it too and wereshouting at the screen "I used to live there!"

:-)

VIVinHERTS

VIVinHERTS Report 24 Jul 2013 23:10

How can you not know anything about your ancestor if you know he was Sir Ebenezer Howard?!
I can understand her wanting to know more about the Stubbs side but to actually know your maternal ancestors name and that he had a knighthood wouldn't you be curious to find out more?

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 24 Jul 2013 23:33

Viv, she just didn't know about his early life.

Some people are not interested in their ancestors when they are young. Don't think of the "old people" in their family being young or having a life worth knowing about.

Una gave the impression that she was embaressed by his knighthood, and kept it rather quiet.
