Lyndi - I quite agree, It's not how it used to be when I joined last October. I'll keep going until my subs runs out, but then I don't think I'll bother to renew.

Don't like all the backbiting, just want to have light discussions with some new friends! :-(

GeordieinNorfolk, maybe it will get better before October - mine don't run out till February

Let's hope so :-D

@ Geordie I totally agree with you, I joined in October last year too. I initially enjoyed contributing to the threads but sadly not so much recently. It is such a pity that it now seems so argumentative, as opposed to friendly open discussions, with sniping and back biting as opposed to funny banter. I hope things will get back to “normal” soon.

Ann, I was discussing product placement :-( Inappropriate advertising images. Was supporting Opening Poster Sharron.

I have nothing to do with sex.

AnnCardiff Report 26 Jun 2013 11:22

who was discussing sex? and in all my 43 years of marriage the word Tampax never passed my husband's lips - but then he was a gentleman

I reported those posts - am sick and tired of the aggro and sniping. If GR see fit to restore them so be it but they spoiled what was a balanced and reasonable debate

♥†۩ Carol Paine ۩†♥ Report 26 Jun 2013 12:23

I know that the subject was/is taboo in many households, but in ours it was/is just a part of becoming women.
As a girl growing up in the 50's/60's in a household where my father (Born 1905) had 4 daughters, it was not uncommon for him to walk over to the village shop to buy sanitary products if we had run out, in the same way that we might be sent out to buy razor blades for him. (Though the later was often necessary because his last one had been used by one of us. lol)

Why should it be embarrassing if a man speaks of these things? Half the population uses/has used them, we are not speaking of anything to be ashamed of.

As for the 'Mother Nature' advertisement, it is very probable that several males were responsible for it's filming.

well said carol

Carol. Dare I say that is almost exactly what I wanted to say. And thought I had said. :-S

If I am shopping alone, it is something I put in my trolley without thinking. To me, it is just a product on open shelving. I would be more embarrassed if I had to stealthily push my trolley to the tobacco kiosk, ask for Consulate and have the screens parted by an embarrassed young assistant :-)

Lyndi Report 26 Jun 2013 12:30

I agree it is a normal part of life and discussion about it doesn't bother me in the slightest, but sniping about it is a different thing altogether.

I agree Carol Paine.........

With three grown-up daughters my Son-in-Law' buys these on regular basis, along with their soap, shampoo, hairsprays, body-sprays etc etc.

To him it is just part of the weekly shop.

AnnCardiff Report 26 Jun 2013 12:38

so the heading of this thread "from your point of view" is not to be from everyone's point of view

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 26 Jun 2013 12:44

This "discussion" so takes me back. Dad had a paper shop when I was in my teens. We sold Dr Whites No 1 and No 2.

Usually customer would say "can I speak to your mum a moment" and I would retire to the lounge at the back as customer whispered her requirements. Very occasionally, I could not escape like that. Mum was down at the wholesalers, I would say. "Oh! I'll pop back later, cock"

But if they continued with planned purchase, I used to blush to the roots, stop speaking for a while, find a lot of brown paper to wrap up the item and take the money - avoiding eye contact at all times.

And the advertising of these sanitary products was not quite so imaginative. Fanciful advertising was then reserved for products like cigarettes and soap powder. :-) ;-)

Lyndi

Lyndi Report 26 Jun 2013 12:48

Ann, the vehemence with which you expressed your view was a tad heavy. If GR see fit to restore then fine, but it was descending into sniping between you and John, and the sniping is the very thing people are fed up with.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 26 Jun 2013 12:55

I was a bit shocked to have been reported twice, Lindi.

But I do think that was the best way to deal with it. Otherwise, some of us try to resolve the sniping ourselves and only get drawn in.

Didn't think I shot my rifle, but happy to let Genes decide about that. :-)
