I know opinion will be divided about this:

Nothing will ever fetch the poor lad back, but I personally think it's a more worthwhile way to commemorate him than flowers in the street.

Joy Report 23 May 2013 20:09

A tragedy for the murdered young man, for his family, friends and colleagues.

Family pay tribute

In a statement, the Drummer Rigby's family said: "Lee was lovely. He would do anything for anybody, he always looked after his sisters and always protected them. He took a 'big brother' role with everyone.

"All he wanted to do from when he was a little boy, was be in the Army. He wanted to live life and enjoy himself. His family meant everything to him. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, and uncle, and a friend to many.

"We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time."

The Muslim Council of Britain condemned the killers for their 'truly barbaric act'.
A spokesman said: 'This is a truly barbaric act that has no basis in Islam and we condemn this unreservedly. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family.
'We understand the victim is a serving member of the Armed Forces. Muslims have long served in this country’s Armed Forces, proudly and with honour.
'This attack on a member of the Armed Forces is dishonourable, and no cause justifies this murder.'

A man and a woman, both 29, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in relation to the Woolwich terror killing of Drummer Lee Rigby, according to Scotland Yard.

The two men who were shot, aged 22 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in hospital in a stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.

Two men have been charged with separate attacks on mosques, in Kent and Essex, after the death of the soldier

please God let there be no retaliation against Muslims or Enoch Powell's chilling words of "rivers of blood" will indeed become a reality - if non Muslims retaliate they will make themselves as low as the scum who perpertrated this heinous act

JustJohn Report 24 May 2013 09:41

The younger of the two men appears to have been born in Lambeth in about 1992, to a Nigerian mother who is now living with his stepfather in Lincolnshire.

I have noted that a lot of black British youth in south London and elsewhere get persuaded into Islam because it is a "black" religion. Also, they are angry because their white friends seem to get the best local jobs and they feel they cannot move forward in their lives unless it is through the arts or through sport.

Tellingly, he shouted out "our soldiers" and "women in our land see this sort of death frequently". So he admits on film he has just killed one of his soldiers defending him and his land and, as he has apparently hardly if ever lived outside UK and was born a UK citizen, we can only assume Lambeth is extremely violent.

The answer lies in Islamic teaching. No way would anything like this have happened if he was applying the laws of Islam and if he had been taught his chosen religion properly. And it must be up to the Islamic study centres and mosques to apply quality control to what is taught in the name of their prophet.

Sorry John but misquoting and quoting out of context (again) can be very dangerous.
What he actually said, allegedly, was "I apologise that women have had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don't care about you."

Kinda puts a different slant on it doesn't it?

DazedConfused

DazedConfused Report 24 May 2013 11:20

Lambeth is NO more violent a place to live in than any other London borough or large inner city area.

How awful to say that. In fact I find the comment truly offensive.

And Woolwich is in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

However, Mersey, the lad did mention 'our soldiers' in the same sentence as that you have quoted. A truly confused and misled young man.

A tragedy all round on all sides.

I live in Plumstead (part of Woolwich) and just about 1 mile from where this happened. It is very much a multiracial community, and despite all the hype by the media, people are getting on with their lives, with just a few making a meal of the whole tragic incident, talking about reprisals and riots etc., (in the main it has been old white people and very young black youths).

As long as people are not taken in by all the press etc., carrying on about reprisals etc., this will become a tragic event in the area which all members of all communities will remember with great sadness and learn to continue to live together in the harmony we have done so up til now. Yes we have had problems in the past with gangs (and still do to a minor part) but on the whole we all get along just fine.

Rambling Report 24 May 2013 11:23

Mersey, as well as saying what you have quoted, he did actually use the words "our soldiers" something like 'get our soldiers out ( or back?)' .. unless I am going deaf and daft ( possible!) However it seems this as been edited from the video's online?

edit , thanks to PP I know I didn't mishear.

Sorry for delay in getting back to this thread, all I was saying was that John was misquoting what was said to give it a different meaning as far as I was concerned and I find his comment about Lambeth offensive because he seems to have twisted what was said ......

Rather than changing quotes to suit we should be thinking of all those affected by this terrible event and not turn it into a debate about religion.......

There are various reports that the perpetrators of this attack were known to the security services. This does not surprise me in view of the numerous reports about those with extreme Islamic views openly preaching hate propaganda.

The aim of these individuals and groups is to persuade young Muslims to follow violent interpretations of Islam. Their propaganda is deliberately designed to fill them with hatred and fill their minds with anger, to such an extent, that they express this in extreme ways such as the horrific murder in Woolwich of Drummer Lee Rigby.

In saying that, it is not only young Muslims that are being persuaded to follow extreme views, on the other side of the coin hatred of Muslims is openly being promoted by groups such as The English Defence League.

This country has numerous laws in place to deal with those who promote such views, however, for some reason, the individuals and groups who promote them appear to be able to freely carry on preaching their vile propaganda.

I am not sure why the law is not being enforced, it may be fear of breaching Human Rights Legislation or that it might not be politically correct to do so. One thing I am sure about is that, no matter what a persons nationality, class, religion, or sexual orientation is, the promotion of fanatical and extremist views is not acceptable under any circumstances.

Our politicians and other leaders when responding to incidents such as this horrific attack, move very quickly tp make headline grabbing comments, however they appears to be paralysed when it comes to taking action to deal with the causes of the problem.

I don't know the answers, and successive governments of all parties do not appear to have found the answer, in my opinion a first step must surely be to enforce the law to its full extent, to close down the places where these views are preached and to prosecute, without fear or favour, all those who promote such views.

As a nation we owe that, not only to Drummer Lee Rigby, but to all law abiding decent people in this country, so I say to all those responsible for ensuring that our laws are upheld, to stop prancing around posing for photo opportunities and to do their duty by making a start in dealing with this problem by bringing the full force of the law down on all those who promote this vile propaganda, Drummer Lee Rigby did his duty - Now Is The Time To Do Yours!!!

As somebody with a pretty good knowledge of Woolwich and Plumstead ( where my granny was born ) I would like to say that PigletsPal is quite right, Woolwich does not have a high level of violence, indeed the average person who knows the place would describe it as "boring, nothing ever happens".

Bournemouth for instance has in recent years far worse statistics for violent crime and murder.

and as for you terry - of course you shouldn't be damning Muslims any more than you should damn any nationality - there's a vile man in North Wales on trial at the moment for the vicious murder of a sweet little five year old girl - are you going to damn all Welsh people?
