Life should have meant life - they should die in prison!!!!!

I think they are good because those sentences with "life" can be never ending and with Mick's personality, if he were ever released he wouldn't last a week before doing something that caused him to be banged up again - AND, if and when any of them get out, they'll be watching their backs for ever

In theory a life sentance with a minimum 15 years before being considered for parole could mean he could be kept in prison indefinitly or even until his death

I expect all 3 will appeal their "harsh" sentences.

What effect all this will have on remaining children is a concern. :-S

The 17 year sentance is misleading they will only serve a third of that in prison

Whatever prison they go to, the prison staff will need to be on their toes, prisoners have their own way of dealing with those responsible for the deaths of children.

Its not a crime to hatch a plan,only when its carried out as in this case,an act it seems went terribly terribly wrong.

Even if Philpotts plan had not gone so tragically wrong, they would have committed a crime. Firstly you have conspiracy to commit arson with the intent to endanger life. Setting the fire with anyone inside automatically endangering lives, a reckless act. Carries a maximum of life imprisonment. With conspiracy all parties share equal blame, not just the one lighting the match.

An offence is committed under the Criminal Attempts Act once someone does something which is more than merely preparity.

My thoughts are all three should have been given life sentences and have it tough inside.

the case with Joss Stone - those two men have been found guilty of hatching a plot to kill and rob her yet they did neither

MP------will be 75 before he is able for parol.

she is young enough to be released to come out and start a new life after 7 half years,,,,,,,,as is Mosley.

There should not be any parol for either of them.and if the system serves the children well they will all be refused.

And in the Joss Stone case one off the accused Kevin Liverpool has to serve 10 years and eight months before being eligible for parole :-S

with regard to her, the other half of her sentence will be on licence meaning she can be recalled at any time until the end of the full sentence, though I can't see her stepping out of line somehow - she's obviously as thick as a plank

MP got a life sentence with a 15 year tariff which means he will be CONSIDERED for parole after that time, it is unlikely he will be released for many years after that, if at all. The other two got a determinate sentence which means they will be out of jail after serving half on licence. He will be a very old man if he is ever released.

the question that need to be ask, with his long record of violence, why was he allowed to live amongst us, and why wasn't he do a long stretch for two accounts of attempted murder, one for stabbing and two for using a cross boW and bolt...BRITISH JUSTICE STINKS

The Sentence given should have been for each individual Child, thus ensuring they never get out of prison.**M**.

Paula, Ive Just reading up on the 17 year determinate sentence and it looks like a determinate sentence means automatic release after serving Half of the term but on Probation for the remainder of the sentance as apposed to being on license

I am sick to my stomach at the light sentences they got.

Yes the instgator MP may have got Life with parole after 15 yrs but he should have got six (6) life sentences and not to run concurrently.

So he should die in prison and his body should be burnt.

Wife got 17 yrs,which is roughly only just over 2yrs for each child that was killed,should have been 6 life sentences.

And don't give me she was a victim as well because she had a mind of her own and could always have said NO but she didn't.

As for PM,
He should be serving 6 Life sentences as well and die in prison.

How can the law put so little sentence on a childs life Beggars belief.

I would string them up by the B8lls and leave them until they start screaming for Mercy that they didn't give to their children.

I am thinking of the suffering those children had to go through dying from smoke inhalation.

It would be very wrong to allow somebody who had hatched a plan to kill to get away without a heavy sentence.

It would set a precedent that hatching such a plan would only attract a light sentence and it and it would give them a sign that it was not too bad being caught so you could do it again.

I had to laugh when they interviewed te editor of the local Derby newspaper - he pointed out that it was probably the first time in his life that Mick had been told what to do by a woman :-D :-D :-D :-D

I agree with sue they should have got life for each child our law is the laughing stock of the world.

I see that George Osbourn wants a debate on the Phillpots, How he got away with claiming for so long beggers believe. Its these kind of people that the goverment should be going after and Im sure that there is a number of them not putting people that really in need on the bread line

unfortunately they are giving all peope who claim benefits a bad name - I would hope the Philpotts are very much in the minority - he lost nearly half his benefits when his mistress left with the children - that's all he was bothered about - the money
