re Paul and Lloyd ..... hands up who has spoken 'that offending phrase' in the dark past? :-0..the shame :-(....but what a stare that Paul gives out. :-|

I loved the saying Deidre quoted as being one of her mother's (Blanche) who always had the best lines imo........."it's a small world but I wouldn't like to hoover it." :-D :-D

edit: Transmogrified = in a surprising or magical manner. ;-)

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 16 Jul 2013 08:04

I've heard that phrase many times but quite honestly never considered it to be a racist comment - is it just me?

Island

Island Report 16 Jul 2013 10:33

I hadn't heard the expression for decades, didn't know the meaning either so I don't know why Miss Prim Sophie Webster is involving herself. OTT.

In the winter the females on the street - except Emily and Rita - wear clothes that wouldn't keep a budgie warm. Now it is July they are dressed for the cold - why was Drearie wearing her winter coat last night? :-S

AnninGlos Report 16 Jul 2013 10:41

Probably because they couldn't envisage uk ever having another heatwave.

I have heard the phrase although not one I'd probably use. But it never honestly occurred to me that it was racist.

I suppose the inference is that only white people are fair/honest but I am not sure why somebody Sophie's age would automatically find it offensive.

But we have got drugs in emmerdale so maybe they needed a 'cause' to focus on. Can't actually imagine Lloyd's character worrying about it though.

Island

Island Report 16 Jul 2013 11:44

yeah but they do know we get cold winters :-D

I think the prolonged fuss is out of character for Lloyd too Ann. As for Sophie and Jenna standing at the bar like a couple of startled rabbits in a cars headlights and Sophie asking Paul if he wanted to be served (oops, is that non pc?) by the Asian or the lesbian!!! :-S :-S Are they suggesting it is ok to victimize someone for an unfortunate comment?

Mauatthecoast

Mauatthecoast Report 16 Jul 2013 12:03

yes I thought that too Island....one rule for one and.......

Just heard someone say this morning that the turn of phrase used by Paul was connected to playing cowboys and Indians (sorry North Americans) :-(....the good men wore white hats ? :-S :-D

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 16 Jul 2013 12:22

yes Mau - I connected with cowboys and Indians - white man - redskins

Mauatthecoast

Mauatthecoast Report 16 Jul 2013 13:11

Lloyd say Paul speak with forked tongue :-| :-D

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 16 Jul 2013 14:02

and a quote from Tonto in the Lone Ranger - "him plenty dead" :-D :-D :-D

What a tangled web we weave...................................I am catching up with the story, but I don't know what to think.

I have heard the expression years ago, but have never used it to my knowledge. Its like that other expression my dear old Mum used to use when I asked her where she had been 'Up in Annie's room!'. Long past into the mists of time.

The soaps do have causes every now and again. When it ends, the voiceover always says 'If you have been affected by So-and-So's story, contact .........'

I did really know what transmogrified meant...............I just didn't want to be a clever clogs!!!!! lol [before you all jump on me, I am NOT saying that Mau, is!]

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

MotownGal Report 17 Jul 2013 20:06

We saw Amy tonight, so now we know where she is. Is it the same actress? Pity she looks straight into the camera, lol.

Now your starter for 10..................................is there a more devious, cunning, conniving, rude, smart@rse, creature than Tracey Love?

AnninGlos Report 22 Jul 2013 21:05

Bit of a weepy this evening wasn't it.

I had not realised how bad those odds are. One in five is alive after five years.(as Hayley said, that means four in five are not). I believe she is going out of it sometime soon.

Mauatthecoast Report 22 Jul 2013 21:30

MotownGal

MotownGal Report 23 Jul 2013 18:09

Ah poor old Hayley, she will not be clip clopping over the cobbles in her red anorak for much longer.

I do like Julie Hesmondhaugh [I don't know if I spelt it correctly] she is so unlike her character, she is a blonde under that wig.

Its gonna be a weepy ending, I can feel it in my waters.
