Just to warn you - the Met Office has now updated the amber snow warning to a red warning for the South Wales valleys tomorrow as below:-

A band of snow, heavy in places, will spread northeastwards across Wales and the southwestern half of England, during Friday morning, lasting through the afternoon and evening across much of Wales, the Midlands, southern and parts of southeast England. Winds will strengthen, leading to drifting of lying snow.

Many parts of the Red Warning area are likely to have 20-30 cm of snow with strong southeasterly winds causing blizzards, severe drifting of lying snow and thus severe disruption. The public should avoid all non-essential journeys.

Elsewhere, accumulations of more than 5-10 cm of snow will occur quite widely, with 15 cm in some western parts of the Amber area, falling within 3-6 hours. The public should be prepared for disruption, including altering travel plans.

Earlier in week they said we would get it on West Wales coast, yesterday no, it would miss us. Today we are due for it again tomorrow (just).

Due to go back to the Valleys on Monday so we cannot make a decision until then whether we travel or not.

Norfolk - parts of the county are Amber alert for snow by tomorrow morning, expecting 5 to 10 cm, depending on area. More snow Saturday, in fact, all days up to Tuesday looking dodgy. Winds are going to get up, so we may have blizzards and drifting. Not as bad as what is expected for Wales, though! Very cold here, has never got above minus 2c during today. Everything looks beautiful, though, especially the trees and bushes. We're putting out plenty of food for the birds, they really need it at the moment.
Take care, Everybody, wherever you are.
Lynda.

Light snow off and on here in NWales most of the afternoon. Just have a covering....it is freezing hard though so if we get some overnight it will be treacherous on roads tomorrow. The wind has become quite gusty now....

Brenda. I am very relieved. You are ok usually along coast road because the air is so salty , but as soon as you go inland it can be very treacherous. Many was the time that I took coast road through Prestatyn and Flint to Chester when A55 was impassible. Usually up the Rhuallt. But I would not have turned left past the Bay towards Llanrwst and beyond for all the lamb in Gwynedd tonight.

Talking about 15cm here tonight (6") and up to 30cm (12") just east of here in Gwent (Monmouthshire). :-(

Suffolk - similar forecast to that given by GeordieinNorfolk. Snow expected to reach here again late morning/early afternoon and carry on all day. As the snow from Monday and Tuesday hasn't thawed it could end up quite treacherous. Even a gritting lorry managed to slide off the road into a ditch about 3 miles from here.

We are supposed to be going to a surprise birthday party for bil in Essex tomorrow, staying overnight and getting back for a dinner near Bury St. Edmunds on Saturday, but I don't know whether we will make it.

Didnt know you cared John!! Seriously though I do know what it can be like just half a mile inland.I lived in Gwaenysgor at one time and though only 1/2 mile up the hill from Prestatyn ,,,by the start of Offas Dyke,it was a different world.
When I lived in Dolwyddelan ,well I got stuck a few times and carried shovel, blankets ,food, ashes, and even got snow chains...and that's only 5 miles from Betws.
No snow here yet.The coast is still clear.
Wouldn't be surprised if saxophone/ clarinettist doesn't get there tonight as he lives in Dolgellau.

Mersey....let me know when you come to Wales in the better weather.

JustJohn Report 17 Jan 2013 21:06

Brenda. You are my favourite :-D :-D I can't blow my own trumpet, but.....

No snow here yet either. About 1am it is due to start here and you will be an hour behind probably as it is coming in from south west of you. Forecast did seem to suggest it would be a lot earlier ie now. :-0
