Annie. They call Maerdy little Moscow, don't they. Not sure if because of left wing politics of miners or the fact that - at 750 ft - it is above the snowline. If I am shopping in Ferndale in August and it is an uncomfortably hot summers day, I like to drive two miles up to Maerdy and have a snowball fight :-D ;-)

Snow still not come down to Pontypandy yet, and my temp gauge say 41F - so too mild hopefully tonight. :-)

John, I think it's because there were at one time a great number of communists in that part of the valleys, although it was a sort of underground movement. My grandparents' house had a picture of Karl Marx on the wall in the middle room, as we called it, but they were all members of the conservative club. This was because it was the only place in the village where you could get a drink - an alcoholic one. My mother remembers a terrible scandal one night when the floor of the conservative club collapsed and the place was full of chapel deacons who had to be rescued.

I'm sorry, I digress from the subject of snow.

:-D :-D And the Minister came into the Con Club, was totally shocked to see his deacons lying there in the rubble and said: "Diaconiaid, dach ch'n rhagrithwyr" (deacons, you are hypocrites).

"And for those who have liittle Welsh" he continued, "my chapel deacons are a load of apricots"

I also digress. Back to snow. "When I marry Mr Snow........." :-D

I HATE snow! It has been forecast for Midlands, but will be nowhere near as bad as some of you will have. I HATE snow, I hate driving in it I HATE walking in it, and HATE it when it turns to ice. It is like Dancing on Ice for me when I go out. Did I mention I HATE snow. Please take care everyone. :-(

The same deacons used to run the Temperance Society and the Band Of Hope in the village - at least until the accident when they were somewhat discredited. I'm ashamed to say I was related to some of them which is why I never touch a drop (that's a little lie there- oh, all right, a great big one). Off to Asda.

Well here in Kent its taitters but no snow as yet.

I had the car in yesterday for the second time since OCT for a scrape on the passenger side rear wheel arch. Its very awkward to reverse the car in the garage as its a 1960,s build when cars were smaller, that,s my excuse!!

They brought it back after dark so it had to sit outside the garage cos no way can you see to reverse it in..

Went out this morning ,all of a doodah, to put the car away and it was 4 degrees outside.

After LOTS of backwards and forwards and realignments the car is safely in the garage and I was able to get out of it .

Got to do it all over again tomorrow cos take OH to Mass and pick him up after it.

Am beginning to hate the garage and parking in reverse!!

Shirley, I can only reverse/parallel park. I find it very hard to drive/pull into a space. :-)

Cars are so much bigger than 1960's. If you take an average car today, like a Renault Megane, they are massive and absolutely no chance of parking them in a 1960's garage. Almost all garages are now storage areas, with chest freezers, keep fit equipment and like. Only cars you see are those precious 1960's cars - all wrapped up and precious.

Many of those garages have been turned into an extra bedroom. Amazing to think that most 1960's cars would have fitted quite well.

Ours is a Ford Fiesta Diesel and is quite bulbous. You think you have parked straight even when driving into a parking space only to find when you get out its NOT .

I find parking it a bit frustrating when you see its offline when you thought you had done a good job..

The garage had to have a new up and over door after burglars did the lock in that couldn't be replaced . trouble was the"new" door was smaller that the old one cos dimensions had changed so we had to have more wood added to the side opening so the mechanism could be fitted. Makes it less room now to clear the wing mirrors which you need to see where you are going.

Wish we could get the garage widened but theres no room to do that

I hate snow, always scared of falling down as I did a few years back. I got some shoe spikes recently to put on my boots so hope they will work if I have to go out in the frozen slush. New snow is ok but it doesn't stay new and easy to walk on.

O.h. working today so he is taking car in case it's snowing when he finishes, will be really cold at work as there is something being done to the electricity supply so everything will have to be turned off in the factory and offices and then he and his colleagues (all called in for overtime) will have to make sure all the computerised machines are running ok when the supply is switched on again. Sounds like fun, he has no idea how late he will be as it depends on the people doing the electricity changeover (not sure what it's all about)

I think I will just hibernate all day lol

It looks dry outside at the mo and not even frosty but things can change so fast, it's very cold (Norwich)

Take care everyone,

Lizx

I am pretty hopeless at reversing into spaces, luckily don't have to use garage as it's full with other stuff (not mine) but at least it would be a case of driving in and reversing out on to driveway.

Hope we don't get snow up here on N Wales coast as I do live up a hill.

Maryanna Report 13 Jan 2013 09:43

Had some sleet last night but have woken up to blue sky here in Surrey.

Bits of white cloud coming down from the North West though.

We did a big shop on Friday and I don't go to work until Wednesday.

I am the nearest member of staff to school but as I only work two days I don't have a key, the nearest other teacher is about six miles away, so if it snows between now and Wednesday, we might get a snow day.

We shall see .......... M
