Wendy, if I am hungry my mind says eat something and it won't matter!

Trouble is I am not a great fruit eater except for bananas, and peaches, nectarines, grapes in season.

Weighing in for my 2nd week

In all I have lost 7 1/2 pounds.......I have to admit that it seems like months instead of weeks that I last had a roast dinner.......but I am now on a mission and am feeling fitter by the day even though I have flu. The outdoor pursuits are invigorating and I am sure the brisk walks are helping to ease symptoms usually attributed to the dreaded lurgy.

Susan being cheery for a change......am off to dog agility classes tonight...that always cheers me up :-)

Ann, if you really do feel hungry have something you like but drink a full glass of water a few minutes before you eat it. This will fil you up and take the edge off of your appetite.

Scozz.... NOOOOOO do not send OH out for chocolate, send him out for a magazine or some other inedible treat :-D

Susan, brilliant I too am on a mission and much as I like having visitors I am annoyed with myself for eating the food that I bought with them in mind, biscuits, cake etc. I am so pleased that I stayed the same weight but I also upped the walking etc. I can't help thinking that I should have been more sensible but it's too late now so onwards and upwards. My ultimate aim is to just be able to eat sensibly but to have a little of all the things I fancy.

Tenerife Sun Report 22 Oct 2012 13:41

End of week 3. This was a six day week for me to get me back on track to starting my week on Mondays. At the beginning of the week I gained a pound, due to eating more when the visitors were here catching up on me but by the end of the six days I had lost that pound and one more. So in the three weeks five pounds in total ( not counting the one on and off again) I would have like it to have been more than a pound this week but to be honest I didn't expect it to be much more than that so I am happy that at least my weight is going down.

This next week, week 4, I have no excuses. No visitors only one meal out and a full seven days. I want a minimum of 2lbs off. This is a good average to have as the bigger the loss the quicker it goes on.

I have started reading the Fit For Life book on my Kindle and to be very honest in my opinion it is not a suitable way of eating on a permanent basis. I think that it is over written and takes 6 pages to say what could have been said in 2 and in parts contradicts itself. I am in agreement with a lot of the things stated as being a healthy way to eat but I also disagree with a lot of what is written. Having said that I am only 24% into the book, up to The Theory of Detoxification, for those that have already read it. The authors stress that it is easy to follow which I think it probably is if you never leave the house and eat all your meals at home. But this is ONLY my opinion.

Hope everyone else is doing well, probably all better than me in the last week.

You have done well, Wendy as you are getting a steady loss. I am also reading the Kindle version of Fit for Life and it is really annoying me as there is such a load of waffle to trudge through before you get to the nitty gritty. Not sure I am interested enough to reach the end!

*looks around thread....and to everyone else, hope you are all doing well...don't be shy come on here and fess up! :-D

Hi BC and once again thanks for helping me to keep going. Like you I'm not sure that I will actually read all of this book but I don't like giving up on things. It does rather go on and on and on ..... My eldest daughter is a trained nutritionist so if I am ever in doubt I ask her. I used to own a little business in weight management using low fat and exercise as the basis for losing weight healthily and staying active. I'm happy in knowing that what I am doing is not detrimental to my health and it appears to be working too. I have more energy and I am not hungry and although I only lost one pound this week I feel thinner.

Susan10146857 Report 23 Oct 2012 14:05

I read most of the book and took on board the eating of fruit half hour before any other food.......I have been exercising with the dogs as well as going to training classes.....I succumbed to a steak meal on Saturday......I gave in to all the cooking smells one comes across whilst shopping :-(

up till now, apart from all the naughty moments......I have lost exactly one stone.......don't ask me how. I just know that my way has worked for me.......I feel fit and not so tired.......I think it may have helped by detoxing first and then just adding a nice meal now and then.......and all the exercise........ I have, I might add, been taking in all the necessary nutrients........It started with reading that I could lose 7lbs in 7 days.......It is true.....one can :-)

AnninGlos Report 23 Oct 2012 16:43

Well done Susan Wiv, not on losing a stone but on feeling healthier. I suspect it is the exercise that helps you, walking the dogs (when did dog become dogs? I missed that) takes a lot of energy which burns calories.

Wendy, how long has the diet been going? Does anyone know anyone who has been on it then stopped it. If so did they put the weight back on even if staying eating sensibly but not having fast days? :-)

Hi Susan,
Well done especially with all the exercise which will also help to build and strengthen muscles.

What do you eat in an average day now and do you feel hungry. I feel fine and have more energy now then when I was eating more.

Hi Ann
I didn't know anything about this diet until a friend told me she was on it. I had noticed that she had lost some weight and asked her how she had done it.

I would think that once the weight loss has been achieved the stomach has shrunk and you don't need so much food anyway. Or maybe one day a week Of cutting back rather than twoWendy x

Susan10146857 Report 23 Oct 2012 23:43

The first week I just ate fruit and salad...then got flu so the next week I had soup and fruit...then a steak dinner....then salad....so nothing special......if I was hungry I just ate more fruit / sticks of celery or carrots......still no caffeine drinks...just pure fruit juice or water

Tenerife Sun and All

I have just been reading through your thread and am in awe of you all :-) you have all achieved so much and have so such will power :-) one thing I sadly haven't got :-(

One post I read mentioned a food seasoning called Spike I don't know if everyone is aware but this contains MSG (monosodium glutimate)
I believe many people have an intolerance to this.

Good luck everyone :-D I will be reading everyday to try and get inspired. x

Hello Lesley. Are you going to join us. Now is the time to start if you want to lose a little weight before Christmas.

I won't say that doing the 5 + 2 diet is easy but it certainly isn't hard. Two days a week of restrictions really isn't that much of a trial. Even on those two days you can eat quite a lot but just need to be aware or what you are eating.

I feel good and this morning someone asked me if I had lost weight and that made me feel even better and that my efforts are all worthwhile.

I appreciate that everybody is different, everybody has different levels of current activity and as I said before just doing a little more than you normally do is the best way to go. Doing this regularly is the only way to improve your mobility, energy levels etc. build up slowly. Susan has three dogs to walk each day and this gets her out and helps with weight loss etc. Walking also helps to build muscle. Muscle weighs heavier than fat so the more you improve your muscle tone the slower the weight will go down on the scales. Muscle will also help to burn fat. But ....you can't blame a little saunter to the supermarket for a no weight loss week. You have to put in some effort.

If you consider athletes that do long, hard workouts. They are usually all muscle and very little fat but they will weigh a lot more that you probably think.

Although I do care about how much I weigh I am more concerned with body fat percentages, in other words how much of my body weight is pure fat! Your body fat says a lot about how you look, what you see in the mirror. This is NOT vanity it is being aware of just how much unwanted fat and weight you are carrying around everyday. How much stress you are putting on your knees, hips and other joints. I personally want to protect my joints and try to keep my body reasonably healthy. I also want to enjoy life and know that I can eat out and accept invitations without worrying about what I can eat or appearing to be a fussy eater to my friends. This diet works for me. I can change the two days to suit myself or any commitments I may have. I make the effort to walk whenever possible but I am also happy to get the car out if it is raining or too hot to walk. I fit in around this lifestyle of eating and exercise and it fits in around me.

As always, this is my personal opinion and maybe would not suit everybody but it is worth a try and if if you don't get on with it then stop. You may be surprised at just how flexible and beneficial it is.

The article on MSG was very interesting and the recipes. I am considering buying some from Amazon.

Wendy

Hi Susan, I'm a lover of home made soup, partly because it is easy to make and these days I am happy with anything that isn't time consuming. I save all the time consuming meals for when I eat out!

Maybe I should get a dog, a large one with long legs and lots of energy to make me walk miles every day. Seriously I love dogs and have had four over the years but now I would have problems finding someone to look after it when I want to pop of to England to see my family.

Keep up the good work. :-)

Re: Fit For Life. As I said originally this is NOT a diet book, it's about fitness through healthy eating. Weight loss will accompany a healthy lifestyle.

I agree much of the book can be tedious, especially the strange names of products only available in the North American market.

What I learned from it was that processed foods are often very bad for us and can cause bad health and weight gain. I also learned that our bodies reward us for healthy eating with more energy and a better "glow".

The principles of "food combining" are very important to anyone who wants a healthy lifestyle. When I see / hear people ordering Pork chops with chips and cheese or bacon and cheese on a burger I start to feel a bit sick!

Re: SPIKE. The ingredient list on the jars I have makes no mention of
any additives. The makers website is http://www.modernfearn.com

Well done all of you for your efforts.

I have been drinking herbal teas....my favourite being lemon and ginger. I am sure that a lot of my success has been because I am no longer drinking gallons of cups of tea with two ushers each cup.
