I've still got this awful cold! So I don't think I'll be starting the D plan next week.

Woke up this morning, felt like I'd been hit in the face with a cricket bat.

When I start coughing, the dogs howl.

Hope you feel better soon Scozz, it's not much fun being ill. I feel good on this diet and I don't feel hungry. Look after yourself

Wendy, I feel awful!

My glands are swollen - one in my neck feels like an egg!

I'm seeing a doc on Tuesday (for something else), so maybe he can prescribe something. This cold has hung about for over two weeks.

Got sore ribs from coughing.

Friday 5th October ..Day 5

I will just keep adding to this thread every day until I have completed my first week on Monday unless anyone else joins me and wants to keep it going. After that I will add the occasional progress report before you all become bored to tears with my blow by blow dietry habits!

Off for lunch today and I am looking forward to comparing notes with Jo who introduced me to this diet. I will eat normally but sensibly as there is no fun in being out with others and not enjoying the food.

I know that Scozz is really poorly at the moment but hope that everyone else is fit and active. Enjoy your day however you are spending it.

Well done Wendy-you sound like you've got the right idea when you're out.Motivation is a wonderful thing, isn't it??

Hope you're feeling better soon,Scozz.

As for my own progress-so far,so good.Walked 40 minutes this morning, came back home and did 45 minutes weeding-I'm paying for it now-and housework for the rest of the day.I'm not usually that active, but it was for a good cause.

I have felt in control of my appetite and food intake all day, which is a rarity.Usually I'm at the mercy of my appetite, and search the cupboards or freezer looking for something sweet or savoury, usually fattening! Tea was delayed 2 hours tonight-son offered to buy tea, then disappeared for 2 hours.I was hungry, but felt in control-normally I'd head straight for the biscuit tin, and despite my good intentions, eat more bickies than I should.

I'm still keeping a food diary-writing down everything that passes my lips.It does seem to help, keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Good luck to everyone,

Margot.

Still got this awful cold.

Haven't started The Diet yet.

Got on the scales this morning. I lost 3Kg last week!

I haven't been eating much at all except loads of soft fruit and drinking bucketfulls.

I don't even want chocolate, which is NOT like me.

I don't recommend the "Flu Diet" to anyone!

Poor you. I think that some of the weight will go back on as soon as you are better and start to eat properly again. 3 kilos is 6.6 pounds and quite a lot of that will be water and muscle, not fat. If you can stop it all going back on by eating sensibly you will be off to a good start.

Today, my day 6, was the hardest yet. Not because I was hungry but because I went to a lunchtime buffet style barbecue where there was just SO much food including lots of cakes.

My stomach was soon full but my eyes wanted to eat more. I guessed this would happen so I didn't eat before I went. I loved the cake!!

Today was one of my eat normally days.

Tomorrow is the last day of my first week.

The Original Fit For Life is by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. ISBN 0-553-17355-3 This was a paperback version for the UK market but as I said above, contains a lot of ingredients unfamiliar to Brits. To me the important thing is that the "Food Combining" principle is clearly explained.

I agree absolutely with the Diamonds principle that DIETS are stressful and often counter productive. With Fit for Life you are free to choose how far and how fast you want to go. The main thing is that once you know the basics your food starts to taste better, you feel the energy of natural unprocessed foods and your body responds by clearing out the toxins and shedding water and weight.

I never thought i'd drool when looking at raw celery, carrots, bean sprouts and cucumbers or get excited shopping for tomatoes.

Incidentally you'll find a small warning that while the body IS detoxing you may feel a bit ropey as those released toxins pass through the organs. This usually passes in a few days.

Hi Malcom

I am now on page 90 of the book. I downloaded it earlier hoping it was the correct one and am glad I did.

What a fascinating read it is proving to be. I am looking forward to putting all I have learned from the programme and also the book, into practice. I never knew so much about the workings of the digestive system and this book explains all the dos and don'ts in such an enlightening way that I am unable to sleep until I finish it.

The fit for life Cook book can be purchased for 1p here......

Good morning all

Glad to here you are going to try the 5+2 day diet Susan. I can honestly say I have not felt hungry, i feel good and my energy level haven't suffered at all. If anything I have more energy. Today is the the last day of my first week so I will be revealing my weight loss tomorrow.

As with most of us that diet weight loss is an important factor but as the Horizon programme shows there are so many other important elements to this diet. I am now 68 but don't feel or act anywhere near that age but every time I can't think of a word for something I find myself wondering if this is the beginning of something more and I do lots of things to help keep my brain active and I walk to keep my body going!!

I will continue this diet for 5 weeks and then research it in terms of calorie intake as there will hopefully come a time when i will want to remain a constant weight rather than losing any more.

Thank you very much for posting the YouTube link as I had not actually seen the programme as when I first heard about it it was too late to pick it up on iPlayer. I had heard all about it from a friend but I enjoyed watching the programme and getting the information first hand.

I am sure that the book and the diet can compliment each other if used sensibly. I haven't started reading it yet as I want to finish reading another book I have started first.

Wendy

Good morning Wendy

I thought I would start with a detox for the first few days.....I have stocked up with fruit vegetables and salad. Water or juice made from the fruit will be my only liquid intake.

I am so excited :-D

Hi Wendy and everone,

Went to work today, and still feel in control.Workmate offered to share her opened packet of mini Snickers,I didn't feel the least little bit tempted-very unlike me! Normally I would have had 2 or 3 .

Walked 45 minutes this morning, missed out yesterday.

Have stocked up on some items for my special sandwich,Fit for Life style-a cucumber, tomatoes,an avocado,an Iceberg lettuce,Will get some rocket and alfalfa sprouts, and make up a super-duper sandwich with all those things, plus grated carrot, celery, spring onion and some baby spinach leaves.YUM!! That's my kind of sandwich! :-D :-D (Just a little of each,I hasten to add,but it still ends up as a very satisfying "doorstop" sandwich which I have trouble holding together.)

Will be home tomorrow so may do some juicing, and eat more fruit.

Susan with numbers that sounds great. You may spend more time visiting the loo than usual though,LOL!! You probably know that anyway.

Let us know how your weight went for the first week, Wendy, I'll be weighing in Tuesday night so will be interested to see if there's any loss from last week.

Good luck, everyone.

Margot.

Few years ago converted my Niece (9 and very fussy eater) into a veggie enthusiast by getting her to help me prepare veggie sticks (carrot, celery, cucumber, turnip) and a nice dip sauce as recommended in Fit For Life. Her Mum was agog as she just couldn't get the child to eat veggies at all! Rose was a vegetarian for the next 5 years and still at 21 leads a very healthy lifestyle.

Edit: Well done Susan...I read the book non stop sitting in a Hotel at Stroud then next day I started at the beginning again. I have never needed the cookbook as the principles are so easy to understand you can invent your own meals. :-)

END OF WEEK ONE...well after eating out five times in this first week of my diet I have still lost 4lbs. I am very pleased with this. I would not normally eat out more than once or twice it has just been a very busy week..food wise.

On Wednesday my visitors arrive from the UK for six days so more food and drink than usual again. Hopefully I will be back to normal after that. I am going to continue with 5 + 2 day diet as I haven't been hungry whilst on it. I know that everybody loses more on the first week but if I can continue losing just one or two pounds each weigh in it won't take long to lose a stone. I just want to avoid gaining the weight back or even staying the same.

I hope my weight loss will help to motivate anyone else who feels they need to lose a few pounds.

I go for weigh in tonight but have only had on 500cal day. We have had lots of visitors. Will keep you all posted :-D

Tenerife Sun Report 8 Oct 2012 16:55

Thank you Teresa, next week may not be so easy as I have visitors staying. I could cope with going out for meals but the kitchen cupboards now contain crisps, biscuits, cakes etc

My daughter and I are doing the diet together, she is in Wiltshire in the UK but we share notes. She also lost 4lbs so we are in competition to see who loses the most in week 2. I think she will as she is obviously a lot younger and plays netball.

I really hope that your weigh in goes well tonight.

Wendy :-)
