Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!)

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 13 Sep 2011 13:01

I'm Jill

I was born and raised in London (mainly saaf east) but now live in Kent.

Was married once - have one son.

Now live with Mr Grumpy. He's not so bad - he does most of the cooking (and shopping and housework). I work full time; he is "retired". When it's my turn to cook we have beans on toast or we go out to eat.

I am younger than Hayley and Mick - who are both such fibbers! I am 54. Hayley is ANCIENT and Mick is probably getting on a bit too ... 21, blonde, good looking - yeah, in his dreams!!

Been doing the family tree(s) since 1978. Thank heavens I started asking questions before my parents died ... I also do a One Name Study. And I write and perform some of my (mad) poetry. Oh, and did I mention I work full time? (thank the Lord for Mr Grumpy - couldn't do it without him!)

Jill

This is a lovely, fascinating thread. I have been in contact with lots of GR folks, but only met one face-to-face, which was a lovely experience (Hi,Carole) in Niagara Falls.
I am Mary, age 67 (in spots - much younger in others LOL). Been married twice, the first lasted 16 years to the day and basically happened because of differing coping skills r/t 3 kids, 2 girls and a boy, each with special needs. I will always care about their father. Second marriage was supposed to help the kids and me - but didn't work out that way - 2 step-daughters from that relationship. Lasted 10 years technically but . . . enough said.
I retired last year as a Registered nurse after 43 years working in varied areas of nursing. Premature babies, obstetrics, gynaecology, floating to all depts, office nursing, orthopaedics and finally geriatrics, one of my reasons for leaving after 22 years was that I felt I was fitting in too well and expected to be offered a bed before long. LOL.
I love creative cooking (a polite way of saying "clean out the frig"), baking, reading, family history and knitting - currently working on a carpenter clown pattern from the Jean Greenhowe collection.
My 2 daughters live with me, M is gently challenged and C is divorced and mother to 4 children, all of whom also live with us. The children range from 10 to 14 y/o and two have aautism and seizures. They add what might be called spice to my life LOL. Then there are the animals , as if it wasn't already a zoo of sorts LOL. Two large labradoodles who are autism service dogs, one rambunctious year-old American eskimo crossed with Australian blue heeler, plus a black cat and some fish.
I was born in Cardiff but live in Canada, having emigrated with my parents and brother at the age of 7 yrs.
I have been working on my family tree since 1973, some lines are so much easier than others!! Fortunately for me, my grandmother was also very interested in her family tree and left behind loads of notes to start me off - or to confuse me!!.
Pleasure to meet you all.
Mary

Jean (Monmouth) Report 13 Sep 2011 19:30

I must take issue here, Hayley is not ancient! She is a pretty, lively lady who doesnt look much older than thirty to me.
Mick, not much i dont remember about goat-keeping. Used to milk three before i went to work in the morning. Mischeivious , funny and playful creatures that they are. If you like them, I know I would like meeting you!

Helen in Kent

Helen in Kent Report 14 Sep 2011 13:51

Ha ha, what a funny thread!

I'm Helen, I live on the Kent/East Sussex border and I have been to a couple of meets way back when. I'm not the youngest on this thread but neither am I the oldest!! I have had lots of jobs over the years, including nursing, teaching and retail management, and finally I decided to stick to OH's book-keeping so I gave up all the other jobs. NB OH is totally unappreciative of my great sacrifice!!
We have 4 dogs, 2 cats, a terrapin and 22 hens and until recently we also had rabbits, a hamster and ponies.
In fact I am fed up of animal hair and feathers (and worse) all over the place so I was not amused when OH showed up with an 8 week old puppy last week - dog 4.
My main hobby is family history. I have so much stuff to add to my tree but seem to be having a break! I like to sew and I also belong to a singing group which is great fun.
Mick, the one pet I have always resisted is a goat: I have friends who own them and all they do is look for them, lol!!! Goats eat everything and even the tinies can climb high fences.

'Emma' Report 14 Sep 2011 15:24

Hi I'm Emma, 69 years young and been married for 51 years, I
have a son and a daughter and 3 grand children, oh and one dog
a Westie.
Been addicted to researching my family history for 30 years.
I live in Aberdeen and retired early due to RA, worked as a psychiatric
nurse both in the wards and community.
Had loads of hobbies till hands gave up on me and must admit I miss
knitting, X stich etc, love to read, fact rather than fiction but have been known to change my mind at times about that. Have had 2 knee replacements in the past few months and as OH and I used to walk and hill climb quite often I hope to get back to forrest walks and maybe tackle a wee hill at some point.

Thanks to all my GR friends for the help in finding info for me when I got stuck and for the fun and laughter along the way. Nice thread by the way.

yet again may i thank you for your very interesting threads,
its nice to know we have quite a lot of nurses on the boards(ive nursed for the last 12yrs and currently work for the n.h.s) its also nice to know that some of you share my love of reading, gardening, and family history.
as ive said before, this thread was not started as a nosy thread(one or two accused me of that at the beginning, but they were the only negative posts)this thread was for me to get to know the people i talk to on a regular basis(ive never been to a meet) so thank you very much for giving me opportunity to meet you all.x

Susan10146857 Report 15 Sep 2011 02:22

I don't see anyone accusing anyone of being nosy Suzanne. As for being offended....why would anyone be offended? Certainly not me.....I do wonder at the advisability of so much information being given on an open website though.......but that is my opinion maybe not everyone agrees. Maybe it shouldn't bother me that others give too much of themselves inviting unsavoury charactors into their lives ......but hey ho...whatever....Tis a shame but that is life

maxiMary Report 15 Sep 2011 14:58

Hi Susan, re your last post - you are probably right about advisability of giving so much info on an open board. I am a guilty party LOL, my inclination is to be very open, always have been, been told off for it more than once LOL. I just trust people, despite all the negative things we hear and see around us (should have learned from "unsavoury" marriage #2 !!). Somehow, on here, I feel safe, and so appreciate all the cyber friends I have 'met', the kindness of strangers.
I suppose my issue is one of intellectual thought versus emotional thought, I love people, find their stories fascinating, and tend to respond with my heart rather than my brain!!
Group hug, forgive me if i say too much, I do tend to ramble on LOL.
