Well, being a glass half full sort of person and always trying to look on the bright side of life (oooh I can feel a Monty Python song coming on!), I really really hope that some good will come out of all this chaos.

It seems to me from the comments on this site and the phone calls on LBC radio that the silent majority are finally being listened to.

There are a lot of hardworking people who contribute to society and it is only right that those who are better off support those who are less fortunate. Trouble is, the benefits system and our nanny state has created a society where those who are hardworking are sometimes less well off than those receiving handouts.

If you look back through history, the pendulum has always swung from left to right and back again. Seems to me it's been stuck on the left side for too long and now, finally, it's moving again.

Funny isn't it that so many people are now calling out in very loud voices for things to change and yet not enough cared enough to do something about it 14 years ago.

With you there Pamela.

No one mentions the £12 billion our gold reserves would now be worth if Dear Gordon Brown hadn't sold it at rock bottom prices when he was chancellor ....the truth can sometimes be highly inconvenient though I think..

And with that i'm going to disappear for a while before I really blow a gasket...I've had my fill of apologists and hand wringers on the TV and I'm in too foul a mood as a result to do anything but rant now so I'm going to go and play Risk with the girls and bid for world domination........I could be a while :-D

Hate to agree with the latest D Cameron speech but all he is saying is what people want to hear , but Untill we bring back the respect for other people and their property things will never get better. There is no deterent these days with all this human rights stuf, what about the human rights of people who have had property vandalised etc. It all starts at home and at school, allow corporal punishment allow teachers to teach and to reprimand unruly pupils without the fear of being dragged before the human rights brigade, The system we use with punishing juvinile offenders ie, caution, community service , asbo's are just like medals and is just hardening them up ready for a holliday in jail. The experience of jail should be geared to make them NOT want to go back in there.

Just had an idea.......

Our elderly are often the forgotten generation - sometimes mistreated, sometimes not fed, sometimes lonely.

Prisoners get 3 square meals a day, TV, games, etc. and they are closely monitored.

Let's swap the prisons and the care homes around!

WTF is deleting posts?

Sue's wasn't at the top earlier.

Pamela would our senior citizens also want to be locked in a 6x6 room for 23 hours a day.

Disclaimer - 6x6 may be slightly wrong, I've never been with a tape measure to find out for sure.

ChAoTic: of course they wouldn't I was being ironic (see separate thread on this subject).

Well, a bed is roughly 6' x 4' 6" and some are confined to that for most of their day if they are in a geriatric hospital.

Speaking of which, I'm off to mine now.

;-)

Hi Suzanne,

What is the policy, for a national of another country, whom has settled in the UK , who will qualify to claim a prescribe benefit or any other public funds? :-D

ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 12 Aug 2011 22:49

Sorry, Pamela, I read that literally rather than ironically. I have read the other thread and posted on the original generalisation thread. I've probably read too many posts, on various forums, that said similar stuff to your post, but were serious. Again, my apologies for reading it wrong.

In my opinion, the rot set in when children were told they had 'rights'.
No-one bothered to tell them that, with 'rights,' came responsibility.
Mind you, I have no idea how a 7 year old can have responsibility!

Anyhoo - many children/teenagers appear to have used the 'rights' thing as a threat against their parents and an argument to be allowed to do what they wanted.

Well, the 'responsibility' bit is coming home to roost for many!!
