ChrisofWessex Report 3 Aug 2011 14:44

I have COPD and two years ago I was in hospital with pancreatis, then had respiratory failure, was in ICU for 9 weeks and came home after a six month stay.

I have progressed slowly since then and consultant at end of April was so pleased signed me off his clinic unless I needed him. During the months of May to date I have had about 3 weeks of me, for me , good health, I have been treated for 3 chest infections had 2 x-rays and yesterday when I rang surgery was told x-ray clear but I had a bug diagnosed from sputum test. Apparently it is a bug which is difficult to clear.

I immediately rang hosp and have a an appointment with consultant tomorrow so that is quick.

I am so weak and short of breath there are days I just stay in d gown and am terrified of going into hospital for any length of time.

Sorry to be a mizzy guts.

Poor Chris. You are having a rough time.
Try to take one day at a time. If you feel well, make sure you enjoy it. If not, take it easy & pamper yourself.

Marion , have just having a fit of the mizzies. It is hard on OH as he has had enough worry and was so proud and pleased that there were a few times up to April when we could go out as he said'like a normal couple'!

Am going to lie down, put the fan on and hook onto oxygen. Fingers crossed I get hopeful news tomorrow. Did not like what I googled!!

wisechild Report 3 Aug 2011 15:16

Googling is a dangerous pastime Chris.
I frightened myself to death a few weeks ago when I was told I had to have a colonoscopy.
As luck would have it, it was clear & my experience of the procedure here in Spain was totally different from what I had been led to believe by the NHS site.
My brother has pretty much turned himself into a hypochondriac by looking up his symptoms on the web.
I agree that it´s good to be as clued up as possible, but the info is only general & you have to be concerned with the specifics.
One size doesn´t fit all.

Sorry to hear thet you feel down Chris. I expect the close muggy weather is not helping your condition. I hope that they can come up with some help at the hospital tomorrow.

Chris Googling is just like the old Medical Dictionery. My mother used to say never look in it or you will have everything. I hope your Consultant will be able to give you good treatment for the bugs and rid you of them. Keep cool and rest.

Regards

Vera

PS I'm still in my pj's and I don't have any excuse.

Hi Chris

I'm sorry you are not feeling so good.
As Ann says, the muggy weather can't help - I sometimes feel zapped when it's too close, so I wouldn't think it's any good for you.
Rest up and stay cool.
Hope you're feeling better soon :-D

Thank you all - had a doze. No the hot weather and high pollen never is any good for me. Have an air cooler in lounge and in bedroom a large fan and the oxygen. Nuisance is that the symptoms from hot weather etc are similar to that of a chest infection in the early days! So am apt to try to stick it out until weather cools.

I did keep from googling for 24 hours but like you say - can frighten yourself to death!!!!

I keep saying to OH consultant will have come across this bug before and know what to do!

Chin up Christ, try and think positive and as you say, the consultant will know what he is up against and how to deal with it, I am sure.

Just take one day at a time, you have conquered many things, why should this setback be any different.

Best of luck, and a gentle hug

Well saw consultant and the upshot is that the bug I have is usually suffered by those with cystic fibrosis! There is only one antibiotic in tablet form to deal with it so the 3 lots I had were like taking water. So I take that for 14 days and if it does not kill the bug off then it is 10 days in hospital for intravenous!

Thank you for your good wishes etc and keep fingers crossed this works.
