maggiewinchester Report 7 May 2010 00:29

My brother lives in Brockley........
There have also been queues in Sheffield Hallam, Hackney, Peckham, as well as Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle. Police were reportedly called to deal with disturbances in Islington South after voters began demanding the right to vote.

Some people had been queuing for over an hour.

I went a 8:30 this morning - on the way to work.

I always vote - even if it means spoiling my ballot paper (which I didn't do this time!)

No excuse, the polling stations have been open since 7.00pm. If you're going to work till 10 pm, you go down there in the morning.

Well I agree, if people don't get there early enough, they risk losing their vote, end of. they are open all day after all.

BREAKING NEWS
Police officers at a polling station in Brockley in Lewisham, south-east London, tell a BBC camera crew that voters are still being allowed to vote at 10.30pm. But the returning officer for Sheffield is apologising after people were unable to cast their votes there because of huge queues at polling stations. John Mothersole admits they were caught out.

Some people left it a bit late !!!!

True Teresa but someone once did say that if they stuck a red jumper on a sheep people in this constituency would vote for that. I'm not entirely sure if they were far wrong lol

I can't remember who our MEP is, despite having voted and taken note of the result.

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 6 May 2010 19:31

Cat it was a Labour stronghold here too, but we now have a green council, and a liberal MEP. So who knows?

ChAoTicintheNewYear

ChAoTicintheNewYear Report 6 May 2010 19:20

When I went to vote I had a choice of 5 parties, the usual 3, the UKIP and the BNP. I'd never vote for the BNP and I admit to having a severe allergic reaction to the Tories, although I would possibly vote for them if it was between them and the BNP, if I didn't spoil my vote that is.

Tbh, where I live is a Labour stronghold so whatever I voted, no I'm not saying, I'm expecting them to get in anyway. Then again the council used to be a Labour stronghold and about 3/4 years ago the Labour council didn't get a majority and the Lib Dems and Conservatives formed an alliance and took over the council so who knows.

Haven't voted yet, I will after tea.

I had made my mind up who I was going to vote for (the party) then I realised that owing to a boundary change, I could vote for a "once neighbouring mp".

I have so much respect for him as a local politician (especially compared to ours (in the same party) who has now stepped down) that I am going to vote for him. He doesn't always toe the party line, he always sticks by his principles which appear very sound.

It was quite funny actually, being 'new' here I had not been to that polling station ( church/community hall) ever...and as I was coming out met the one person in the village that knows me lol...she has a house in Wales where I moved from.

Just a thought for Paul, If you don't vote because you don't trust any of them...why not stand as an 'independent' yourself next time...and "put your money where your mouth is" ( that's just a cliched phrase not an insult) even one person can make a change if they have conviction....
