What happened to JC's thread titled Dear Dr Laura?

it went POOF as I was about to post non-inflammatory information reagarding a discussion on the prime miniters and Governor-General's of Canada and Australia

Now that is definitely a no-no .......................... it is discriminatory against people of other nationalities!

Janey

for your information, as you asked me a question re the husband of Canada's Governor-General

I googled for Michaelle Jean's husband

Jean-Daniel Lafond, a French-born film director ............ thus giving Jean French citizenship by marriage, which led to some furor when she was first appointed.

As fro Joe Clark's wife ...... you know, an ex-Prime Minister of Canada. had to google again. I could remember daughter was Catherine McTeer

no, just remembered ......... isn't it Maureen McTeer?

I just know it couldn't have been the link to the Dear Dr. Laura letter -- because that entire letter has been reproduced on this board by other posters multiple times

and those threads don't seem to have been deleted.

Are the Governors General of Commonwealth countries really that offensive to some of our members here???

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Feb 2010 21:08

Well, I have enquired. But it's not like manners -- replying to correspondence received -- hold great sway where my message was addressed.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Feb 2010 21:10

I've also asked for an explanation

................... told them I think it is discriminatory against citizens of other countries.

Wonder if I'll get a reply?

SylviaInCanada

of course, they do only work 8 am to 4 or 5 pm UK time

......... and it's after that now.

I was just about to post and Poof gone, you are all correct.
Total discrimination against you Canucks I reckon.
Although AuntyS was getting right into the debate and she is Oziland aint she?
Dont really blame em though,I would prob discriminate against the Sylvia and Janey Canucks ,but I value their research skills!!.

I have pointed out, to the powers that be, the very obvious bigotry when it comes to "overseas" members more than once in the past -- you recall, Sylvia, the time comment was passed on the "Canadian members"?

Some people enjoy interacting with others of different backgrounds and experiences ... some people really like making themselves look ignorant.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Feb 2010 21:22

Hey, that was no debate there! It was a mutual admiration society, us "overseas members" admiring each other's viceroys. ;)

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Feb 2010 21:24

It's after 4 or 5 UK time ... but somebody's right on the ball, being the dupe.

Some of the stuff on the board this afternoon even that's still here ... maybe the management would just have as hard a time following the prose as I do ...

well, if it works like the parent company

There's a news item on the radio that takes me back

Kate McGarigle was buried today

Remember the McGarigle Sisters in the 70s?

I think I have spelled the surname wrong, it doesn't look quite right!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Feb 2010 21:38

Good lord, Kate McGarrigle (I had to google it to spell it) died??

Oh yes indeed I remember. Back in 1977, I was forced to listen to the self-titled McGarrigle Sisters album over and over ... and over ... by my then amour. I recall a "snow day" of red wine and McGarrigle Sisters ... over and over ... and over ...

What was my first clue the amour was gay? ;)

You know the kids, right? Rufus and Martha, Wainwright?

Rufus is a fave of Elvis Costello, he was on twice in the first season of whatever that performance show is.

As, of course, was the appalling whatsername, Krall, Diana Krall. Which could have to do with her being married to Elvis Costello.

Huh. Well, maybe they'll have bits of the funeral on the news tonight - Rufus and Martha sang.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Feb 2010 21:43

yep, she died a couple of weeks ago, cancer, in her early 60s

I wasn't a big fan, but I did know the names, even back then!!

We have a friend who thinks Diana is great ......... but then, he did teach her (and her sister) in Nanaimo.

I don't like her style.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Feb 2010 22:07

I cannot stomach Diana Krall. If I'd had to listen to that "peel me a grape" TV commercial one more time ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfYU_xNAvNg

Elvis Costello hits it just exactly right. Elton John hams it gawdawfully. Diana Krall is just Diana Krall, firmly believing she is doing something unique and stylish ...

Abbie Lincoln?

I had an Abbie Lincoln phase, found a tape of really old perforrmances.

Problem was, right in the middle of side 1, was a song with lyrics that went "You gotta beat me to keep me". I find it hard to listen to such, even as an historical artefact.
