Aunty S how I would love to hear some of your father's 78s I bet there are some crackers there.
And I love the sax as well. Liked Cleo Lane and johnny Dankworth back in the 50s. Once saw Ella at the Portsmouth Guildhall late 50s I think Oscar Peterson was on the same bill.
I preferred trad Jazz though and went to see Chris Barber a few times, love Monty Sunshine and The Old Rugged Cross.

Hi Ann, I'm not a real sax fan other than one piece. Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. Send shivers down my spine.

I know I have strange music tastes. I tend to concentrate on one music genre at a time, often over a span of four or five years. Rock, country, classical, alternative, pop. Never did dabble in the heavy metal scene, at that time I was attending symphony orchestral concerts and operas. Might say I'm well rounded, musical appreciation style.

My Dad had an abiding love of hammond organ music. Those albums extend into the 33 1/3 rpm vinyl era and is another selection of albums I have carefully stored away.

So that's two mentions of Gerry Rafferty / Baker Street, and here's me looking ignorant. Dizzi wanted it last night and I overlooked it at the time.

Message to Janey!! Bother you, now I have that song traipsing its way around my brain, mucking up the insides of my head.

So, what else has this particular person to offer, musical wise. Does he do lullabies!!

You have two ticks of approval from this end of the world, by the way.

Okay, the complete CD now winging its way to the two whiners. ;)

Some of the bits are rather rude. One in a modern way, one in an olde fashioned way.

My personal fave is Delia.

I thought for a mad moment, JC was Jeremy Clarkson........

sorry....

Hi Bob. Jeremy Clarkson Isn't he in some sort of automobile extravaganza on the telly? Never heard of him.

Meanwhile with the GR Musical Appreciation Society. Thank you for the generous contribution to my "musical" education. It is being morphed into a CD which I will play at five decibels beyond the pain level in my little red car. Hearing, pardon, what hearing, that's shot anyway so I might as well enjoy while I still can.

I have also passed a few of the offerings onto another aficionado of musical talent. However her ear has been spoilt by an over exposure to U2. There is always retraining.

Well, in my dreams ... and for a fleeting roller coaster ride ...

"Louis Riel" opened last night ............. OH said he thought it went well.

Tonight, Saturday night and Sunday matinee ...... and then it's all over.

At least, until they start rehearsing for The Magic Flute, in a few weeks time (after the Olympics are over I believe).

Have you heard that Jack Layton has treatable prostate cancer, and isn't going to stand down while having treatment.

Says he might get more chance to watch the Olympics on TV!

Congrats on the show - is it being recorded at all?

Hadn't heard about Jack. I've been kind of off the news for the last week. Unpublicspirited of me, I know - but how much pre-Olympics can one take? So hadn't heard about Jack.

... Huh, didn't know that Olivia had had thyroid cancer, either. (See, I know who *that* wife of is! Could be because she's an MP on her own ... and has a name of her own ...)

I see Iggy has had nice words:

http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/02/05/jack-layton.html

**Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said Canadians stand behind Layton in his fight against cancer. "We all know how combative Jack is and we know that he will face this challenge with his usual determination," Ignatieff said. "While we often find ourselves lined up on different sides of the issues, we are always united in our desire to make Canada a better country, and united in our respect for each other. Today, we are united in our support for one of our fellow MPs, who has contributed greatly to his country."**

Very gracious. Where's the Harper? ...

I'm not Jack's biggest fan politically. I did vote for him as party leader, but it's not like there was a lot of choice, although I am a fan of Bill Blaikie. We missed our chance with Svend, unfortunately.

Anybody seen a very large green and gold boxing kangaroo bedspread?

Really, the cheek of these furriners. Was a bit grubby so I washed it and hung it to dry outside the window.

Threatening to remove it they are and it will take at least a week or two to dry in this inclement weather.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 5 Feb 2010 20:53

I would have been extremely surprised if Iggy had not been very gracious. It just seems to me that that is the man.

Harper????????????

I have the radio on as I'm on here, and heard the press conference that Jack held earlier this morning. He sounded very upbeat about it, and his prognosis. His dad had it 17 years ago, and won.

Yep, Svend would have been great ..... daft beggar!

Not sure about the recording. There was talk a couple of weeks ago that CBC would be recording with the idea of using it IF it worked out well. But OH said nothing has been mentioned recently.

Now who would believe that ...

I think she was being rude about Vancouver weather

it was 13C and sunny yesterday

so they will have to keep washing the flag!

Found the other thread. Filled it up with Australian whimsy.

Yes I was referring to Vancouver weather. I take it that the temperature has to be a certain chilly low degrees. Or do they ski on bean bag beans.

We are definitely behind the snowman with our ability to practice for winter sports. The majority of Aussies have never even seen snow. I have, once and it is horrible.

"The only snowfields on the mainland with snow suitable for skiing are in the high Alps in Southern New South Wales and North Eastern Victoria. Some snow falls on smaller mountains further south in Victoria but is unpredictable.
In Tasmania, Mount Wellington near Hobart has sporadic snow in colder months and Ben Lomond in the northeast has skiing in winter months.
Very occasionally, snow falls in the Granite Belt in Southern Queensland but usually only lasts a few hours before melting."
