And the timing was just right -- Ancestry has only fairly recently got the full births and marriages indexes on line. Six months ago, it might not have been possible!

That meant I was able to find Margaret's marriage and her children's births (including one whose name PollyPoppet didn't have), and then, by an amazingly lucky happenstance, find that daughter listed in the telephone directory under her full name.

It's something to keep in mind, for people who have tried and failed to find lost rellies in the past -- it's only in the last few months that the complete BMD databases are completely searchable on line (so you can do searches even without knowing surnames, for instance, in the death records). So it may be worth trying again (including reviving old searches on the TTF boards for help.)

And I'll even sit still for all this "blessing" in silence -- as long as there are no hugs!! ;)

I want pictures of the reunion, by the way!

Thanks for your words of wisdom Janey, I am sure that you have encouraged people to keep trying.

How lovely the article was, and what a shame the social worker never told your Dad and his brother about his sister being fairly close by.

I do hope the get together is all you want it to be and more and also that your Dad and his sister have many happy years in touch now they have finally found each other.

i learnt so much about my dad when i was researching his family
things he wouldnt talk about but he is opening up now so it must have been very painful for him to keep it to himself for such a long time
bless he had a hard childhood
but he has been such a wonderful dad to me and my sister i couldnt have asked for a better dad and mum

Wonderful article in The Courier. What a change to read good news, an inspiring story for us all.

I bet you are your sister are excited about meeting your cousins too.

A family reunion in a grand scale. I can just imagine all the chatter going on.
Will the staff at the Hotel know that it is a special family reunion? If not I reckon that they will soon realise that there is a special buzz surrounding your family group.
Make sure that you take cameras, tissues and throat sweets (just in case your throats get dry!).
Will be thinking of you all, relax and enjoy yourselves.

Happy Chatting.
