We cook all sort in ours. Lamb shanks are so tender, they just fall off the bone. A friend of ours also cooks pork chops in hers on low. Ours is a big 6 ltr one, and we would not be without it. |

Yes, I have done a lamb shank, today I have braising steak in mine, I love the fact that I then don't have to do anything towards the meal except cook some rice, pasta or potatoes. |

When preparing last night's meal, I chopped up an onion and put it together with some stewing meat, and popped it into the slow oven. Was cooked by 8.30. Had also cooked a pan of potatoes. Already and prepared for my Pastry day, today, for amongst other things, old fashioned meat and potato pie. Now where is that flour |

Julia, do you mean you cooked it overnight to 08.30am? And are making meat and potato pie today??? |

Hello Ann, no, didn't leave it overnight. Turned it off 8.30 last night. Pie is now made, and cooling for the freezer. Also made a Cheese and Potato Pie like we used to have at school. Got my recipe off of the www.allotment.org.uk/recipe site. Very easy, peasy. Saving that for tomorrow as we have a funeral on, and I hate going out and having to start 'mealing' when I get back. OH Liver and Chips tonight, me, Prawns in a sauce c/o Birds Eye, and Rice. Have to vary things a bit, or it gets boring. |

I used to love cheese and potato pie but OH doesn't like cooked cheese so never do it. Oh I misread it as 8.30am!! |

Ann-So pleased that people keep adding to this (thread) I hope that is what you call it. So homely and comforting when all else is cold and miserable outside. Nothing like food and cooking to cheer is there? Also it gives me inspiration what to cook for us when other people add to it too. I'm loving cooking with my slow cooker and recommending one to all my family and friends. |

I brought some lamb bits the other day, (the left over bits that the butcher cant make chops etc out of) they still have quite a bit of meat on them (and a bit of fat too :-) ). They are about 2 inches thick and about 5 inches long, not sure what you would call them in the UK (Must ask mum). I have thrown them in the slow cooker with a sachet of sage and onion gravey mix, and a couple of oxo cubes. I have no idea if this combo of flavours is going to work, will just have to wait and see. :-) |

Hi Oldbean, Lucky you to be given venison :-). My OH has cooked deer necks in the slow cooker. He cooked them with onion, whole garlic cloves, button mushrooms and a Maggie Cook in the Pot Beef Bourguinon recipe mix. (Not sure if they are just a NZ thing). They were cooked on low for about 8 hours. It was yummy and very tender. Jazz (the dog) looked disappointed that she only got the neck bones. We tend to be very experimental when it comes to the slow cooker, just throw everything in a hope for the best. OH said to mention we have also slow cooked goat, and we are soon to try wild pork. |

Thank you helly2wellynz how lovely to get message from you and so far away! That sounds my kind of recipe more rustic than fancy, I am sure i can get a mix similar to yours otherwise I may just throw in the wine!! |

Hello Ann in Glos-yes I did thanks and it looks great, more or less did as helly2wellynz suggested. I have put it in the freezer for when the family come over, it made such a lot!! Also, I cooked the pheasant it was all a bit rich, felt like Christmas menus all over again!! I am cooking venison sausages with veg for tomorrow nights supper as working late, trying them in the slow cooker too, so will see how that turns out. |

We ate the venison casserole yesterday after cooking it in slow cooker and then freezing it. Absolutely scrumptious! Very very tender, the children aged 2 and 4 had seconds!! |
