I was particulary impressed with the brisket I cooked Sunday, weight just under a kilogram. Roast for two of us Sunday, sliced cold with beand and oven chips Monday, curried today with some left over veg. Not a bit wasted, lovely and tender and beautiful flavour, all for £5.47. |

Ann, what did you add to the brisket when you put it in the slow cooker, ? |

I chopped some onion and put it under the meat, then I put in a small amount, less than a pint, probably half a pint of red wine and water, I poured it over the meat. The meat then cooked in that and its own juices. which I used to make gravy. |

I showed the small one to o.h. today and he agrees it will be too small so will get the larger one from Argos when I go out and take the small one back or show it to my son and see if he thinks it will be big enough for his use. |

Sorry Liz, and that was my suggestion! It IS very small but I didnt want too much clutter and it is perfect for one so I would imagine it would be suitable for your son. More recipes and ideas please! BCXX |

Got lamb pieces in mine today with tinned tomatoes, mushrooms and a sauce made with a tin of carrot & coriander soup, red wine and a small amount of gravy powder. I know, all my recipes are a bit hit and miss but I rarely have a failure. I often use a tin of soup as a base for a sauce/gravy. I will serve the lamb with mashed potatoes and veg. |

I often use ready made mixes and sauces Mummo. I like the Spanish sauce I think it is by Homepride. |

B.C. no reason for you to apologise, I appreciated the recommendation! It was good to get that one first and show o.h. so he can see the size, now I can get the other one knowing I have persuaded him lol I will show my son the smaller one and see what he thinks, but as he likes to cook things and freeze portions he might be happier with the big one as well. |

Trouble with most ready made sauces, or ready made foods in general, they are all too spicy for us. OH has an awkward tummy and cant stand a hot spice. Cant find a sausage made anywhere that suits him. I dont remember them always being like that. |

I have just bought the tesco slow cooker as recommended. Thank-you! So today, for the first time, I have some diced pork and lots of veg with some stock. Off to work with fingers crossed as I won't be in till 6 o'clock!! I intend to thicken it with butter mixed with flour to stir in to enrich and maybe a splash of wine and serve with greens. I shall leave it on the high setting and ask OH to check it if he is in before me. Am a bit nervous but thanks to all the experienced slow cookers out there shall feel comforted that it will turn out ok. |
