Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 14 Jan 2010 17:08

I'm watching this thread with interest. you have been so brave, I would have had to have been sedated for that many extractions! can't wait to see how you get on when the swelling etc has gone completely

Right, I was told to keep them in tonight, and not to rinse until morning. So that's what I'll do.

I'm going to swing for Hagar. He's just put the kettle on, for a cuppa, then bent down to me and said 'Ooooh it's all right in this nursing home isn't it?'

How brave TW! Hope you settle into your new teeth soon :)

Well done, TW!

They (the new teeth!) will feel strange at first and you will wonder if you will ever get used to them, but you will.

I used to think 'this must be how a horse feels with the bit between his teeth' but I hardly notice it now.

Beware of seeded crusty bread. Poppy seed, especially, can cause soreness when they 'escape' under the plate.

Smile please!

Teresa, so pleased it's gone ok. Before you tackle the bacon buttie though, do remember that your adhesive will work much better for having 15 minutes or so to settle before you eat or drink.
Experiment with the different types, I have found one that works better than any other for me.
Welcome the the club!!!!

Thanks all. I've just managed to eat a jacket spud, though left the skin *sobs, the best bit*, and it wasnt' too bad, but I've bitten the inside of my cheek again. If I keep doing that I'll go back and get them adjusted.

Wildgoose Report 15 Jan 2010 08:11

I used to bite myself at first and I was amazed the teeth 'worked'

Your're doing well to be eating solid food already but I don't like the idea that you need adhesive - if it's a full plate you shouldn't need any.

Have a try with no sticky stuff; my top set stays in without and they almost feel 'real'.

I've used just a couple of little dots of adhesive this morning, and no oozing. I dont' know if it will stay in or not without it, I'll wait until the gums settle a bit, then try it without.

I have a very sore bit toward the back, where he injected me I think, and it was quite painful to put the teeth in over it this morning. Also gagged a bit when I first put them in, but that stopped after a couple of minutes.

I dont' arf look like my dad without the top teeth! I almost scared myself looking in the mirror last night!

Not really solid food Birdi, it was weetabix and a jacket spud, and only the inside, which was soft enough. I haven't tried anything I have to bite or chew yet. It'll be cupasoup at lunchtime and probably an omelette for tea. I did dunk a digestive in my tea last night though.

I don't seem to be able to taste much though.

you done well T:}

The soreness is natural and to be expected; dental needles are cruel instruments! Swelling will go down in a few days, too.

The 'gagging' is another thing I didn't expect, this went on for some time when I put my teeth back in in the mornings. I just throw them in now!

Eating anything is a triumph at this early stage.

I still scare myself if I look at my toothless face in the mirror. Ugh! I look about 90.

Still, the progress you are making is great.

Best wishes

Oooo how long did it go on for?

I sometimes gag a little when I go to speak LOL. that's fun! NOT. It's getting better though, even after one day.

Give it a week or so, and you won't be 'gagging' when you wear them; you'll forget they're there.

The slightly sicky feeling I had when putting them back in lasted for ages but it is momentary; used to remind me of morning sickness!

You'll be OK and so long (as the others say as well) you do NOT LOOK in the mirrror without them, you'll feel great.

TeresaW Report 15 Jan 2010 20:44

BC....too late, already done it...lol

Merlin....shut it! lol

Birdi, Hope so, I dont' like this gagging feeling, though it's settled down as the day has worn on, but probably start up again in the morning lol.

Feeling a bit bruised so still only eating soup or weetabix, but I notice I'm clenching my jaw when I'm concentrating again, (no wonder I lost the back teeth lol), and the pressure doesn't hurt too much now.

Talking of Taste TW, when I first had this new front plate, It is mostly steel wire frame but I noticed I wasn't tasting so well. I think it was getting used to the wax strip behind the front teeth and I taste OK now, so i am obviously 'tasting' with the back of the roof of my mouth and tongue now. Also maybe your mouth is traumatised by injections which is why youa re not tasting well.
