thank you BC, Yes I know who the thread was directed at, unfortunately as the boy who cried wolf, sometimes even she genuinely needs support.

I also realise that people give support in different ways, I don't have any problems with those who don't care to publicly offer support. I do have a problem though with those who criticize the people who ask for support. and before anyone goes running off sending PMs I am not directing that at anyone in particular, it is a general comment.

Myself, I am grateful for the few times I have asked for and received support, I have no family nearby and, having moved around a lot, no local friends for a support group so any support I receive on here is warmly welcomed.

I have my MIL fairly close by (well a few kilometres) and we talk on the phone all the time. I do not have close friends or relatives nearby either and love the comradeship and support others on here give me and I can hopefully return.

I do not know how I managed without you lot and feel like part of an extended family.

I wouldn't have been able to go through a pretty awful 8 months as well as I did, if it hadn't been for the support I got, and still get, from people on this site... it really meant a lot to me, when hubby would read the days' posts out, lol... even the nurses used to look forward to it, they were often sooooo funny!!

I will always give support where I can,, just to know that someone has taken the time to type a few words, well, that can give a real boost, and this helps recovery, or at the very least, helps with feelings of well being!!

I didn't dare pop my clogs.. there were too many lovely folk out there who'd have murdered me, lolol!! ;¬))

Love

Just heard from son, doesn't look too good I'm afraid. This is what he wrote.

"Apparently the form of stroke he had with internal bleeding in the brain is rated 1 thru 5 (5 being the worst) and he had a 4. He is still in intensive care in Chesterfield, on ventilation etc. They tried reducing the sedatives yesterday but he reacted badly so is sedated again. There are still issues controlling his blood pressure and of course having had one serious bleed in his brain another could happen at any time. Pretty bleak really. The latest plan is another CAT scan this morning followed by an attempt to remove the sedatives this afternoon and see how he reacts. If it goes really well he could possibly be moved to Sheffield specialist unit for an operation, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of optimism around at the moment."

I do wonder, if he does come round, how will his mental faculties have been affected?

thanks Jenny and daff. Think he might have more odds stacked against him though, as my daughter pointed out, at his age (think he is about 76) the operation would be very risky poor man.

Hi Ann, sorry things don't look too good for your d.i.l.'s father - I hope he finds the strength to fight back and makes a good recovery if it is possible. Such a worry for all the family and sad to see someone you love go through all that.
