You are so right, Allan. That's what it's all about - people who have no idea of the needs of patients and their families. The Cancer Council are in the business of money making but in our local office they have 10 paid people. These people work very hard and I would never take that away from them but I'm sure people would not support us if they thought our money would go to paying wages. Our organisation doesn't just raise money for equipment we also work with patients on the ward and in the treatment centre hopefully making their lives a little easier. They don't pay my fee for training new volunteers - the area health service do. The Cancer Council have no direct contact with patients. |

Sue, I can imagine they would just like the money handed over, but in my experience fundraisers like to "see" something tangible for their efforts. |

Well, I'm here at last. I have been here for a while, but it seems to take longer and longer each day to read to-day's posts and know what we are all up to! Good night to those leaving us and good morning to those who are all bright and bushy tailed.???? |

Sue, your organisation sounds very similar to one in the UK. I can't recall the name of it now, but when my mother had cancer volunteers visited her and my dad at home. |

Good morning, Berona. Feeling a little better today - just a little lacking in energy. That Allan is an ungrateful devil isn't he? Fancy not wanting a beautiful multi-coloured striped beanie. |

That's nice of you Allan. You've made my day. I'll see what I can do. |

Allan, They sound very like the McMillan Nurses that we have here, they visit people in their homes, and are fantastic with cancer patients and their families. |
