Good morning, well Grandson got here OK, no problems, he cooked us a very nice meal last night and has now departed for Bristol airport (so is on the motorway again!!). Then he flies to Cork for the week. But he is still one of my babies, how did he get so grown up??

MrDaff Report 5 Sep 2009 08:48

Morning everyone... well, I had a lovely time... mum and dad behaved and didn't bicker once, lol... lots of laughing and giggling, and they reminisced about their childhoods, and the fact that where we were sitting would have looked out over a canal when they were children... it was built over after the war, and is still under the road!! Churchill Way, in Cardiff, for anyone who knows the area.. We were able to roughly pinpoint where my grandmother was born... it is all down now.. which my mum didn't know about.. then I went on a bendy bus for the very first time!! I haven't been on a bus for years!

On the bus, my dad was chatting to a lovely elderly man... he was 16 during the siege of Malta... he was a stoker on a ship, and he got to his stop before I discovered just how he had become involved in it so much that he feels he has earned part of the George Cross that Malta was awarded... he also has the MBE, awarded much later... and carries his war photos, a few letters from his wife, and the photo's of his investiture, wearing all his campaign medals at Remembrance Parades etc... he was fascinating.

This man and my dad know each other from Bus Hopping, lol... they both know all the bus routes, timetables, etc... seems like there is a little club of them, and they know all the bus drivers, too... I was fascinated.

The meal was delicious, Mamiddau, it wasn't that one... this place is in Guildford Crescent... I am sure my dad must know of the one in St Mary St.... dad loves everything Portugese, and pops across there very regularly.

I finally got home at 8.30... we sat at their house just talking and getting along.... I think the longest I have spent with them when they haven't bickered, or I haven't ended up rowing with dad..... a brilliant day

Ann I hope he arrived all safe and sound... R said the traffic in your area was pretty grim, yesterday, too.... has he left now?

I am the eldest..... the one who phoned I don't mind even though I found it difficult, as I can perfectly understand how he was feeling, and I am one of the few who can, and his worry is now resolved, and he would do exactly the same for me, as he understands as well... but the other is a little more difficult and not so easily resolved. I am ashamed to say that I don't have the same level of patience as I once had with this person. *huge sigh* Not what was expected of me, and I was called some rude names as a result. Apologies yesterday morning, though. I am fine, now, really... I think it was that beautiful full moon responsible, lololol

Maz... are you enjoying your weekend? The sun is shining here, although it is a bit cold. I have dug out my pretty (not!!) bedsocks, and so my feet are all warm and cosy... and am wrapped in my big teddy bear dressing gown..... it is all cwtchy and cosy... Jethro and Pol also love it, and are vying for best position... they are both curled up on segments of the hem, looking indignantly at me, cos they can't get to my lap... too much belly, and the desk is in the way, lolol

Well... must go and have a look around the boards, and then get ready for some food shopping... no fresh veg in for the weekend, and I also need a joint... not sure what I fancy, so I'd better have some brekkie, too... when I am hungry I want everything, lol

See you later

Love

He is a good lad, text me to say he was at the airport, so, except for the flight I can more or less stop the 'in loco whatever' worrying. His parents will be back home tomorrow.

Glad you had a nice time out yesterday.

Just been to get the papers and called in to the local garden centre which is gradually coming back to life after closing down, still not got a lot of stock but got some miniature narcissus and some crocus which I have put in the front of the new gravel bed under the apple tree. Also bought two small pots of sempirvirens which I have put in a clay pot. And the cafe is open again so we had a coffee.

Morning Daff and all:-) Glad to hear Gizmo is recovering Maz and that you will be having a new kitchen Jean! Lucky you, I could do with a new one but I don't cook enough to justify it! lol

Dull looking day here, I bought some lovely violas and pansies to add a bit of something to the patio. Have had to take petunias out, I think they rotted with the rain. But my two exotic climbers, Santana and the Bougainvilea are blazing scarlet and pink so that's nice:-)

Off to the park, they are already getting ready for next week's Last Night of the Proms...Terry Wogan and Barry Mannilow:-)

Have a good day, y'all. BCXXX

Morning everyone.

Had a lovely evening yesterday... drooled over Simon, spoke to family and friends on the phone and had an early night again... tossed and turned for a couple of hours, so I slept later as a result.

Good luck for J for Friday, Jean... I have the plumbing appointment then, as well... tomorrow I have the dentist, Tuesday the GP and solicitor... not both at the same time, I hasten to add, lol... so a busy week next week.

I haven't done much scrapbooking... but I have scanned loads of stuff, and have been playing around with a couple of pages... thanks to Ann for the inspiration! I have almost got it, I think... haven't glued them down yet, as I feel that something is missing, and not sure what that something is... the ribbon is the wrong colour pink, I think plus it needs some lilac and a pale creamy yellow to bring the background all together...

Maz, poor thing... fancy being starved again, lol

Lol Mau... I think my entire family tend towards the eccentric, lolol me included, but they are always interesting and never ever boring.

Ann... I recognise the name sempivirens... but can't place the plant... I'll have to google in a minute. Enjoy your day today, now that you are no longer in loco parentis (not sure if that is how it is spelt or said... but it certainly sends you loco, lolol)

Not sure what we are up to today... R is still snoring. I do know that we shall be having roast lamb with all the trimmings for dinner....... lovely!

Well.. off to make another cuppa, and to find where I slung my delightful bedsocks when my feet had warmed up yesterday..... they are frozen again.

Morning BC.... have a lovely time at the park... does that mean that Barry and Terry are getting the park ready themselves??? Do you have your autograph book at the ready? Or *lightbulb moment... old fashioned 100 watt one not those simpering little things* maybe it is going to take that long for them to be made to look presentable.......

Huia

Huia Report 6 Sep 2009 09:48

All this talk of gardening, all I have done is mow the lawns. It is the first time I have done it. My job now I am on my own. I did try to start the mower the other day but wasnt successful so when our son came up from Rotorua today to visit his dad in hospital he started it for me and mowed a bit before he went home. I insisted on taking over as I will have to do it in future. I hope I can get a mower that is easier to start though. I got up enough of a sweat just pushing mower around, with getting sweaty trying to start it in the first place. I didnt do all our lawn, there is so much, but at least I can now find my way around the outside of the house without peering through a jungle.

Thanks Ann.... had a little google, lolol

R is cooking my dinner... we have just got back in after a gentle stroll around the garden centre, and a quick trip to Asda..... popped in to see one of my sisters, stayed about 10 minutes, and straight back home... I am tired today, so while R slaves over a roast lamb dinner, I am off for a bit of a nap, lol
