Just a quick hallo from the damp lake district, managed to get on line in the hallway of daughters apartment while they are doing the garden - they have joined us for the weekend. Hope you are all well, weather was great until Wednesday and has been wet and windy and patchy sun ever since. Home tomorrow. |

It has been a beautiful fine day today, although there was a nippy breeze straight off the South Pole. We went to a beach and helped to weed a shellbank where the endangered dotterel nests. They are in full breeding plumage at the moment, although all I saw of them was 2 flying off. We had to remove the buffalo grass which would eventually cover the whole shellbank, leaving nowhere for the birds to nest. There would have been 40 - 50 people doing it. |

Now if only I could get half those people to come and help weed my garden and tidy things up! We have a bit over an acre of land and my garden is a right proper mess. I have virtually given up on it. |

Good Morning Daff and Ann and Huia and Maz:-) And a Happy Summer Solstice to you all. The weather is warm and cloudy here and it's strange not to have the dog to drag to the park! lol..My patio is in full glorious garish bloom right now and am hoping it wont die while I am away. My neighbour has promised to water when necessary.....*frets... hope she wont stop the runner beans which have decided to grow up and across the parasol. |

Morninng all... looks lovely today... we bought lots of manure and topsoil yesterday.. R will go back for the compost later... but today will be spent in the garden. Loads of deadheading... and weeding!! Huia, I think I have some of your weeds, as well! We also bought a few plants for the shady spot, and some veggie plants.... plus loads of seeds. We have decided to put the seeds into pots... which is why we need the compost. We have beetroot, a variety of lettuce, carrots, cauliflower and swede seeds, and small plants are:- onion, beans, sugar snap peas, ordinary peas, and sweetcorn. We bought a little hover mower... reduced in B & Q... and yesterday I walked barefoot in the grass for the first time... it is so thick and green and lush!! Scrummy!! Today it will have a haircut, and by next Saturday it will be lush agan, ready for the little ones to roll around in it!! |
