Hi Pam...great to see you back......I too have had Computor problems on and off recently so havn`t been om Genes much either..!

No films recently but is anyone following The Pacific on Sky Movies? its the latest offering from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, a sort of follow up to the brilliant Band of Brothers from many years ago.....still set in the 2nd WW, but this time its American Marines claiming back Pacific Islands from the Japanese...its absolutely brilliant, with every episode starting with 3 ex marines who WERE there at that time , to watch them recalling their memories puts a lump in your throat......

Also Strike Back on Sky 1...written by an ex Gulf War Veteran......very good.

Any of you seen The Manchuria Candidate ?
Set after the Korean War.
A brain washed sniper attempts to take out the president at a rally.
Laurence Harvey and Frank Sinatra star.
Strange twist at the end.

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are well and doing okay.

Dear David.....yes, I have got the video of the film.
Very compelling. Laurence Harvey was a much under rated actor.

Frank Sinatra was in another film called "Suddenly", where he played a would be assassin. It was a low budget film but has now achived cult status. Sterling Hayden and Nancy Gates were in this too.

I think Frank's serious acting career was overshadowed by his singing.

I also bought a copy of "Waterloo Bridge" with Robert Taylor and Vivien Leigh. To watch this requires a box of tissues!

Take care all
Very best wishes

Yesterday afternoon, at Blyth market I bought a used video cassette. Perfect Storm starring George Clooney.

This is a remake of an old Spencer Tracy film.

Am I correct in saying that Spencer Tracy starred as a Judge in the film Nuremberg Trial ?

Nickydownsouth Report 24 May 2010 14:01

David....

Have you watched Perfect Storm yet?

I love it, with a brilliant performance by both George Clooney and Mark Whalberg....think it was nomoinated for some oscars at the time?

Hi Pam, I was afraid this thread had spent its force.

In The Manchurian Candidate Angela Langesbury was an attractive young woman.

In same film was the late Janet Leigh who Alfred Hitchcock cast naked in the shower at Bates Motel in PSYCHO
She was also the wife of Tony Curtis

Hi David, hope you're keeping well...will you be watching the World Cup?

Yeah it's been a bit quiet on our film thread...but thanks for keeping it going along with all the other faithfuls! I had computer problems.

Yes a good film The Graduate, Anne Bancroft was a beautiful lady and played the 'older women' part so well. I never could take to Dustin Hoffman though...having said that he was SO good in Midnight Cowboy...and what a sad ending it had.

Speak again soon...enjoy the film!

Anne Bancroft's classic line "You are trying to sedce me ?" is as fresh as new every time.|Hoffman was the unfortunate who had Laurrnce Oliveier drill holes in his teeth, without anesthetic, was it Marathon Man?

Nickydownsouth Report 11 Jun 2010 23:09

Well if we`re discussing Dustin Hoffman surely his finest role has to be in Rain Man.?...when he plays the Autistic newly discovered brother of a very Cocky/full of himself Tom Cruise..

A beautifully done film which i think won some Oscars..seen it many times and never tire of it...

Must admit though Pam he was good in Midnight Cowboy, and yes ...the ending was sad...also very good in Papillion with Steve McQueen..

Hi folks...yes Nicky he was good in Papillion...ah that seems a lifetime ago when that film was made...I was taken to see it by a boyfriend before I met my husband so I'm guessing about 1973 or 4. I've never seen the film Rain Man, I will make a point of watching it next time they show it.

David yes you're right about Lawrence Olivier as the dentist in Marathon Man, he keeps sayin to Dustin Hoffman "Is it safe?" over and over again and inbetween drills a little bit more!!!!! AARRGGGHHH!!

Have a good week end folks.

Pam.

Didn't the TV western series Alias Smith and Jones be based on Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid?

☼ Pam ☼

☼ Pam ☼ Report 26 Jun 2010 23:08

Hello folks, yes David I've seen Scent of a Woman and Al doing the tango! He's good isn't he?

Well you're taking me back now David to Alias Smith and Jones...didn't the lovely looking Pete Dual committ suicide? I'm sure he did. Think he suffered badly with depression, very sad. I'm not sure if it was based on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, maybe it was.

Hope that you're all keeping well.

Pam xx
