My wedding dress is ivory and has black detailing, so decided my adult bridesmaids would wear black knee lenth dresses, with a ivory bow, and my younger bridesmaids would wear ivory dresses with a black sash, this is causeing bad feeling between my family as they think that black is not a suitable colour to get married in, its causing upset between me and the oh now as he is saying that he wants the bridesmaid in a bright colour and me in a tradtionallly wedding dress, do i give in?

I once saw a wedding where the bridesmaids wore black and the bride wore black and white and it was stupendous - really chic. I think the men had black and white striped waistcoats with black cravats.

You stick with what you want love - it's your day.

Yours is a very individual unconventional choice, If that is the colour you want then you go with it, If anything, I'm sure people will admire you for being brave enough to be a bit 'different' good luck.

Charley I wanted black for my wedding and it was frowned upon, stupidly I bowed down and had gold but regretted it ever since.

Go with what you want it is your big day x

Go for it.

I got married in blue back in 1973.

It is your choice, nobody elses. It sounds very smart. In 1981 Our daughter had brown for her older bridesmaids and pale pink for the little one, it looked very effective as it was an autumn wedding.

do you mean you can't decide on the flowers? How about red?

DorothyG Report 11 Aug 2008 17:36

Sounds very dramatic - but go for it! I wanted to get married in red - but had my mind changed!!

Flowers - well depends what time of year it is - you could either go for a sort of monochrome look throughout or inject some dramatic colour there.

An idea!!!!!

why not make the entire wedding (main players, guests, reception etc etc) a black and white theme? that way you get what you want (and you'll outshine all of them anyway) and it could be fun for the guests to find appropriate things to wear.

I'll shut up now cos I'm rambling! ))))
