SORRY but i own a full length

red fox coat bought by a friend years ago

but i have not worn it for years

very fashionable in the 70s

I have had fur coats and wore them. I still love fur coats but even I don't have the guts to wear one in the UK now.

If I lived in a country where it was acceptable I would though.

I am being absolutely honest here so please don't throw cyber things my way.

Joy,Why not give it to an Animal charity,they use them for warm bedding in winter;-)

I wore a Coney fur in the seventies (when longer skirts were all the rage :O) ) and it felt wonderful and very warm in the Winter,but wouldn't wear fur coat now,because of scruples after reading about fur trade.

Ate rabbit when I was younger and liked it...but mammy didn't tell me it was a bunny wabbit lol

I do know the cost, I also know the misery they make!

I had to get rid of mine all I could see was Blood!

Its amazing really that people really want to wear fur these days, If you can catch it kill it and skin it then fine you have every right to wear it,if you cant you dont have the right:-))

it was already dead when i got it

though i do feed a fox every night and he is so cute

Perhaps I see things differently having raised and slaughtered own animals for food. We cured the skins when the weather was suitable too.

Years ago I had a beautiful fur jacket an old lady gave me - but I got too nervous to wear it in the end.

I watched that program the other night too and the sights were horrific.

I dont agree with intensive farming of fur animales - nor do I agree with trapping. Both seem very cruel to me.

But I also dont buy chickens or eggs that are battery farmed, and when possible buy meat from organic and/or free range sources.

We are no longer cavemen who have to wear fur to keep warm - it is now purely a fashion item and therefore not necessary.

I don't really see the difference in rearing animals and birds for meat or rearing them for their fur.

Is the rearing process very different?

Those foxes that old ladies used to wear round their necks and think they looked ever so classy.Well,people originally wore them to attract the fleas away from their bodies.

Ranch-raised foxes are kept in cages only 2.5 feet square (minks in cages 1-foot-by-3-feet), with up to four animals per cage.

Animals can languish in traps for days. Up to 1 out of every 4 trapped animals escapes by chewing off his or her own feet, only to die later from blood loss, fever, gangrene, or predation.

To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms may be gassed, electrocuted, poisoned with strychnine, or have their necks snapped. These methods are not 100 percent effective and some animals "wake up" while being skinned.

I meant the way they are reared rather than how they are killed........................death would be instant though I imagine.

Please don't think I am heartless, just curious as to why there is so much antagonism toward anyone who likes and wears fur.

I think you could draw comparisons between the way meat is reared/slaughtered before it's imported. Does anyone really reject meat from countries that still practice inhumane policies?

You would starve in some countries whilst on holiday!

I don't think people can take a firm stance on the fur question unless they apply that to all their consumables.
