I love my archery. I'm lucky in as much as I can walk out of my door and set up a range next to the house, so I can practise as much as I want.

I compete (quite succesfully as well!) and thoroughly enjoy all aspects of it.

It really annoys me when I see people trying to take away yet another sport!

I think the decision to ban archery in Nottingham was appalling. Its the thin end of the wedge.

No, Kim, anyway its illegal in a built up area.

My son was shot with one, from a distance when walking home, luckily it went though the sleeve of his jacket ,and stayed there untill i rang the police, appently, the person who had been taking "pot shots" and hit 3 others as well!!

I think you may have missed Kims post where she says she is going to let him go to a club and learn to use it under supervision :-)

andie Report 24 Jul 2008 19:33

i think kim is taking the proper course, if she lets him go to a club and learn, and then he either likes it or he dont.

tell a child no and they normally go and do it on the quite and that is where the trouble begins.

i cant believe they banned archery in nottingham??
my dad loved archery and couldnt do it after his stroke and he was quite upset, they were such nice people as well at the club he went to.

I probably missed it though reading all your input.
what are you exactly? a poacher turned gamekeeper?
After reading how you live, I really dont see you have enought time to be on the internet all day googling or whatever, to be outside?

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 24 Jul 2008 19:40

i take that as a compliment, that you find the time to read my posts.

I wish I could return it :-)

Taff

Taff Report 24 Jul 2008 19:43

I read threads, not your posts, just because they are there.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 24 Jul 2008 19:49

who cares what you think? Not I :-)

Now have the good manners not to start another fight, please.

And as you obviously read every word I post, I thank you for your continued interest :-)

Howver, what I do with my life is of no concern of yours, as vice versa!

We can be over protective. Before I was 16 I had owned an airgun a bow and arrow and a catapult.I used to go rabbiting and thought nothing of it.Loads of accidents and near misses but we learned from these. These are very different times and I would not presume to advise suffice to say I have seen bad accidents caused by conkers and marbles........and even cars,we wouldnt stop people taking their children in cars would we?

I agree Michael.................a gun is an inanimate object and as safe or unsafe as the person holding it.

If anyone is taught the proper way to handle, clean and shoot a gun, I really can't see any problem with it.

Why is it that the few idiots lead us to worry that anyone who has a gun is going to cause harm to our pets or ourselves.

Taff

Taff Report 24 Jul 2008 21:04

Kitty, because one of my sons was lucky enough to have just his jacket damaged, and not his arm.

Eldrick Report 24 Jul 2008 21:08

I lost a close relative who was killed by a car in a hit and run accident - but it would be totally irrational for me to say that no one should be allowed to have a car.....or to stop my son from having one....

Oh dear Oh dear.

All very nice until someone is killed, maimed or blinded by gun going off by complete accident in the home by a cousin or relative who didn't know what they were doing and had no business to be playing with the the said weapon.

As I have said, before, and will again, if you want to shoot, then go to a recognized shooting club. No guns at home as far as I am concerned, unless it is necessary as part of your profession

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 24 Jul 2008 21:13

So would you apply that logic across the board Peter?

Or purely in relation to firearms?

If only in relation to firearms, is it not rather illogical or irrational?

There are common everyday implements that cause far more avoidable deaths than firearms.....

Taff

Taff Report 24 Jul 2008 21:39

But this thread is about firearms.

Taff

Taff Report 24 Jul 2008 21:46

Anything can be used as a Lethal weapon" in the wrong hands.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 24 Jul 2008 21:48

Yes, and your point is?

That analogies arent allowed?

The most common, respected and logical debating tool has suddenly been arbitrarily banned to suit an argument that cannot be sustained? lol

Rationality and logic go out of the window and firearms debates are not allowed to use the art of rhetoric?

I see. So in that case what has your sons experience got to do with anything as it has no relevance at all to Kims son and his wish to pracise a sport or her decision to allow him to....?

lol
