Hi Doc

I've looked at Essiac and Rene Caisse and it mainly seems to be people trying to sell essiac tea at prices ranging from cheap to extortionate.

The scientific tests all say quite conclusively that there is no evidence at all to suggest it is a cure for cancer. Most of the sites caution against replacing modern treatments with this tea.

Most also point out that someone with a terminal illness is likely to grasp at any straw. I know I would.

It would appear that this tea is one of the reasons that in 1932 (or thereabouts) it was made a criminal offence in the UK to market or sell anything as a cure for cancer. This law is still very much alive and kicking today.

I have no doubt that Rene herself was a very wonderful person, but there is nothing at all there that is paranormal or evidence of anything supernatural in any form.

But interesting though!

Essiac.............my Mum used it .She had been fighting cancer for several years when we finally managed to get hold of it............it did not cure her illness but I for one am certain that it had an affect on her cancer cell count for several months. The consultant seemed most puzzled that the count had gone down. She stopped taking it as I believe she couldn't see much reason to hang around after my Dad died suddenly.
I certainly wouldn't dismiss the effect of Essiac.
Research it on the web........watch out for the ones charging a fortune.....Rene Caisse was not out to make money.......just wanting to help folk.

Absolutely agree - if it helps, then go for it. I would be buying it by the truckload if I thought it might help me in a a similar situation.

Just no evidence from science that it does - but Rene seems to have been a good woman indeed.

But my point that there is nothing paranormal or supernatural in it still stands! Even if it did cure cancer - I cant see why Doc is intimating that there is or may be anything like that at all involved.

OH Report 15 May 2008 20:19

It appears you have not read the part of when the evidence was presented to the medical board and gov't.
Of course there are those that will try to make money from such a product, but since the findings have been hidden from view it is unlikely the correct recipe and method of use will be wrong.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 15 May 2008 20:20

couldnt find that bit doc...can you point me in the direction...?

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 15 May 2008 20:23

No Eldrick.........nothing supernatural about it. Doc might have been eluding to the fact that the recipe for the medicine was given to Rene by a Witch doctor.

If you look into it a bit more ,there is supposed to have been evidence that it worked, but this was quashed by the Canadian government apparently.

No doubt you personally wouldn't be swayed by the apparent quashed stuff.............lol
I found it all rather interesting myself.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 15 May 2008 20:28

oh, yeah, I read that bit, and a report about the individual ingredients - or one of them anyway - being shown to have an effect on tumour cells of certain types....is it not the same for green tea and some product from a shark....I forget but Im sure I read something somewhere about that as well, when we were clutching at straws as my brother was dying of cancer.

I was under the impression that Doc was using this as an example of some sort of reason to believe in spirits or the paranormal....I apologise if that wasn't the case.

I see no harm in this sort of stuff at all, as long as proper medical advice is not disregarded.

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 15 May 2008 20:35

I don't know about Green tea or shark products .

You are quite right as regards to proper medical advice not being disregarded.........I believe Essiac can be used in conjunction with more conventional methods.

Very emotional now.
