If doors were left open Mum would say
"Are you from Bardney"?
This village near Lincoln,it had an Abby, and the story goes that someone important arrived late one night, after the doors had been locked, and no one would open the door. So to make sure this never happened again the doors were always left open.

"what do you think you're doing" - as if I was somehow deluded!

"if I have to tell you again, you'll know about it" - obviously!

"if the wind changes, your face'll stay like that" - and if it doesn't, what then?

daft or what? But what's even sillier is that I find myself saying just the same things.

"just who do you think you are?"

Topical, cos I've just changed who I am (on here, anyway).

If my mother asked me to do something and i did not do it quick enough she would do it and say
The dog for the hard road, the pup for the path.
another one was if we told a fib,
What a web we have to weave when at first we deceive.

My mum's favourites were

Were you born in a barn? - if we left a door open

3 jumps at the cupboard - when we asked what was for tea

Up the wooden hill - when sending us to bed
