Alter there is nothing at all just his wife as head on 1871 then he's back as head in 1881, he must of been 'in pub' or 'in Bath' or even 'in Loo'this would have looked better MOE!

Alter, i have him on all census in lanark scotland except for 1871, his name is JAMES NOLAN aged 40y born Ireland he was a bombadier in the royal Artillery. thats it i think...MOE!

so are we talking born c 1831 ? Ive found a james nolan soldier born 1841 in ireland. Ive found a Murtha(???) Nolan soldier born abt 1831 in ireland in the royal artilliery !!!

James is in kent in 1871 and murtha is in plymouth in 1871

lets hope MURTHA stayed in Plymouth, i think the kent one sounds better, i'll just adopt him...MOE!

any other info-partners ,are you sure about birth year-do you have proof of birth?

Thank Alter I have a little query. I have an Anne Welsford, born 1832, according to census in Colebrook, or Crediton. On her marriage certificate she is of full age and the daughter of James Welsford, a carpenter by trade.So I'm preety confident thats her family on the census. If this is all correct she would be about nine in 1841, but shes not home! Can you have a look for her for me please? Thanks Louise

Alter If you can help with this one I'll be your eternal slave! I do have ancestry myself and the 1881 discs, but am getting nowhere with my one and only English ancestor. Any little expertise I have developed is around the Scottish stuff. HENRY TAYLOR, a pedlar First appears in Scotland on the 1891, purporting to be the husband of my 2 x great grandmother Helen, and the father of her youngest son William, my great grandad (I'm fairly sure he's not!) He claims he's 44, so c.1846/7, and born in Portsmouth. In Nov 1894, he and Helen, who is also a pedlar, get around to marrying legally, in Aberdeen. He claims he's 48, so 1846 looks good. He reckons his parents to be George Taylor, a labourer, deceased, and Margaret ms Hicks, deceased. In Nov 1900 poor old Henry dies. His son (??) William has him as 54, so age is consistent, but has his parents as Thomas Taylor, labourer, deceased and Agnes ms Drew!!! As he's missed the 1901 census (most inconsiderate of him) I have no further confirmation of his birthplace. I can find NOTHING of him before he materialises in Scotland in 1891. Anywhere. Scotland or England. Being a pedlar he could be in Timbuctoo! If he really is William's dad he was in Scotland in 1878, but in 1881 Helen and William were still with Helen's previous beau, although William was reg as illegitimate under one of Helen's various surnames - don't ask! If you can find him you are a genealogy master! Regards Ellen.

Hello Alter Ego. This has had me stumped for a long time. WILLIAM AUGUSTUS JOHN BROWN. I have his marriage certificate 03.02.1874 to Elizabeth Ann Griffin. I have birth certificate of son William born 23.05.1874 Daughter Elizabeth born before marriage? Cannot find details Have family 1881 census Northumberland Rd. Poplar. 1891 Census Oakfield Rd East Ham 1901 Census Milton Avenue East Ham I have his death certificate 25.10.1910 Poplar. East London On certificates full title used each time. Question is where was he born. Only clue is on marriage cetificate he states his father is Daniel and deceased. Where is he in 1861/1871 census?
