I would just say Val, I found a chap all on his own listed as Head in ancestry's transcription. I knew he had a wodge of kids and wondered if he was the right chap. I checked the image and found he was first on a page, so clicked to see the previous image - and there was the wife and half a dozen kids. Mistakes can happen, so always look at the image, particularly if the name is at the very beginning or very end of the census page. |

Do you have any idea where in Somerset Mary was born? There is a Mary Sperring b Loxton, Somerset, in 1835 on the IGI. COuld that be her? If so, it's just another clue. Ian |

OK. In 1851 Mary was a lodge with Anne Sperring in Lympsham, Somerset. Despite being only 15, she is described as a nurse. Anne was 85, a pauper and agricultural labourers widow. Still looking - watch this space! Ian |

Just to add my two penn'orth. The daughter is old enough to be in service, in which case her birthplace could be London, unknown etc. The son would probably still be with his mother, but if the family split up, they might be in the workhouse. |
