I’m not sure if anyone’s interested, but I did hear back from the Devon Records Office, who explained why some copies of the Cornworthy parish registers seem to have gaps in them. Hopefully, this information will help others who may run into similar problems. Here’s what they said (in part): “The 'missing' register for Cornworthy exists, but is not available in microfiche form, but as a 35 mm microfilm only - on a roll. It is a composite register (containing all 3 types of events in 1 book) and covers Marriages 1700-1753 and Baptisms and Burials, 1700-1812. Some of the early registers for Devon were reproduced in 35 mm format when films were far more commonly used than fiche. Films can be purchased under the same agreement as fiche, but private researchers and presumably OPC's may choose not to buy them because they cost more to reproduce from the masters [£20 per roll plus the reproduction fee payable to the parish per register] and/or because they do not have easy access to a microfilm reader.” I don’t think that I’ll purchase the film myself (I have most of the information I want already, I just wanted to see if I’d missed anything) but maybe I can look at a copy at the nearest LDS Family History Centre.
