I don't see May's birth in Bromley area.

Hannah was using the name Syrett before the marriage:

Marriages Sep 1901 (>99%)

Syrett Henry W. Ashford 2a 1730

Yes. sorry just seen you response. yes a very complicated family history which i have researched on other threads so dont want to go over it all again. Hannah was a very colourful character, couidnt spell, read or write.(told a few fibs too!)
On the 1901 census, it shows marys age and birthplace there.

Anyway heres hoping the marr cert shows something.

Yes, I saw May's birthplace on the 1901 census - but can't find an actual birth record.

However, will leave it there as you request.

So was Hannah May ‘s. mother or was Henry Syrett May’s father ?

Florence61 Report 7 Sep 2021 14:32

Well i have today received the 2nd marriage cert between
Bertie Edward Taylor and may Miriam Syrett 16th Aug 1933.

It is the same people that married in 1921 as the parents names are the same!!

So I simply cannot think of any reason why they married in 1921 and then again in 1933 but Bertie changing his surname to Taylor. It is most perlexing.

But to answer whether they had any children, I dont believe they did at all. So this twig of the tree is now defunct and i can leave it to rest.

Thanks to all for you help and info, as always very much appreciated.

Edit, re your last post Shirley, who knows. She gave Syrett as the children's surname before she married Henry Syrett so who can actually say that he was the father of the others too although she named him as their father? I guess some things we shall never find out.

Does a death certificate give any details of the deceaseds parents or their exact date and place of birth?

Not a UK one :-(

Since 1969, a place of birth should be given on a death certificate, but that information, as ever, depends on the informant's knowledge.

EDIT
A death certificate for a child will usually refer to them as for example,

William SMITH aged 2, son of Henry SMITH, greengrocer

Just for information, although of course not relevant in this English case -

Scottish death certs give the parents' names (including mother's maiden name) and father's occupation, also names and occupations of spouse(s) - if the informant knows these details.

Thanks for that info ladies. I have been looking at both marriage certs and the first marriage in 1921 gives the groom's father Bert Evans as a Brewers Drayman.
in the 2nd marriage in 1933 it gives the groom's father as Edward William Taylor(deceased) a Publican.

i have tried to find separate births but there are many with the same name and even the areas etc

im wondering if this groom's father is actually the same person strange as it would seem.as both occupations are similar?

ArgyllGran Report 12 Sep 2021 21:52

Do the ages given for Bert in 1921 and Bertie E in 1933 correspond?

Florence61 Report 13 Sep 2021 13:31

Very similar maybe a year different

I have been on a quest this morning to locate May's birth in 1893 as it stated on 1901 census but as has been mentioned, i cannot find any trace at all. i searched on Free BMD on Syrett and mmn of Pitcher plus i just put May Miriam without a surname but cannot trace the birth. How very strange, the plot thickens!

I also searched on Family Search.org but to no avail

Strange though how on both marriage certs, the 2nd one gives may's surname as Syrett and a spinster even though they did marry first in 1921? He also says he is a batchelor too??

Guess Ive come to the end of this twig on the tree as cant think of anything else to search and the mystery of the 2 marriages and different names will still be a mystery.

Thanks for all your help & time looking. Much appreciated

Im completely baffled by it all considering i just wanted to find out if they had children and was there a living line but have ruled that out now.
