How very strange. She was born on the 4th March, but the certificate has no mention of the name Young

Re 1881 census - yes, you're right, Kentishmaid.
It does say Chilbolton when you know what you're looking for.

Pure speculation but I am wondering if Edgar Dollar also used the name Young. He had a chequered life.
The UK Register of Habitual Criminals and Police Gazettes 1834-1934 shows him as having committed an offence in 1906 and I have traced quite a few earlier offences
In 1910,he was sentenced to 6 months and it was at that point the vicar stepped in and sent the 2 youngest girls to Barnardo's

I have always felt the sentences were excessive for the offences committed. They do however fall in line with other crimes committed at the time.

I can't see him anywhere. Perhaps he was using a completely different name after his 6 months hard labour.

I hadn't found him in the 1911 either

I am waiting the 1921 to see where Violet was when she conceived my Dad. It seems she probably went into service when she left Barnardo's.

I did try looking for the 1901 lodger (Thomas Isaac) to see if he was with him but drew a blank
