I can't see her on the 1939 Register either

Thank you for your kind reply. I have now established that this is not a relative of mine. The Ridouts that are my ancestors were born in Milton Abbas area of Dorset. My grandfather Robert Sidney Ridout left Dorset as a young man and went to London and worked as a coachman. The link with Charles Ridout who lived in Todmorden, is they were brothers.

It's been shown on this thread that the man in that marriage was Robert Stanley, not Robert Sidney, and that his father was Robert Harry, not Charles.

There seem to be only two Robert Ridouts with middle name specifically Sidney/Sydney.

The most likely is the one born 1887, in that tree which Maddie has posted, and whose birth Kath posted on page 1. Born in Fulham - so didn't leave Dorset as a young man , as you suggest.

His father is the Charles I've posted about above, who was born in Milton Abbas.

He's therefore the nephew of the Robert born in Milton Abbas, whom I've posted above.

So if that's your Robert, he wasn't born in Dorset, didn't leave there "as a young man", and wasn't a coachman.

If you feel that the man born in 1887 is also not your Robert, then I fear you'll have to give us more to go on;.

Maddie has posted the 1881 census showing Charles Ridout born in Barnes.

That is the man who was living in Todmorden in 1911 (see page 1).

I can't find a census with Charles and Robert together, but Harriet was the mother of both of them. See 1901 census posted at 12:36.

Just seen the report yes this is my family. I think the war service of my grandfather 1914-1920 is very interesting. I was looking for it but had no luck. That and the mystery of my mistaking Robert Stanley for a Robert Sidney put me off track. I became interested in Todmorden as I was not aware of reletives there. My cousin found an old post card of a park in Todmorden. We were intrigued it was to my grandmother and ended your dear sister Maggie Ridout. She was telling my grandmother that Robert Sidney was with them but had to leave to get back by 7pm. My grandfather was gassed in the first world war. I dicovered that there was a hopital in the park.
