No one can find a marriage between William Yates and Florence Stone.,,

Kay, that snippet of the newspaper article was fantastic! Showed it my dad and he was chuffed.. it gave him an insight to his parents wedding.

Speaking to my dad this afternoon, he said for some reason he though that His auntie Flo (Florence born 1908) was actually adopted and also he remembers visiting a lady called Mary when he was little, so this could tie in.

Just need to dig a bit more. I’ll be requesting a few more certs.

Don’t think Elizabeth Worley is her mum as Florence was born after Elizabeth married
Plus she is listed as niece not stepdaughter

Think one of the other sisters may be Florences mum

You need the birth certificates for its info

It does look like Elizabeth and John Stone took her in and she was known as stone at one time
They don’t appear to have had any children so brought Florence up

It’s also looks like she never married

There’s no ww1 records for him but then many records haven’t survived

The address is 5 Richmond Road, Shepherds Bush.


There are various names at that address in the ERs over the years, but not Yates, and no Florence..

Robert Flowers is there in 1913 -1915 . Can't see an ER for 1916.

In the 1911 census, it's Robert Flower and family.
Also (same address but different household) William and Anne Elizabeth Stringer.
Also Robert and Beatrice Aldridge - a third household.

The fourth flat has Alfred Alexander and family. One of his daughters is named Ellen Margaret , age 12, born London .
Probably coincidence - she's Ellen Margaret at birth too - no mention of the name Florence:
