Hello Is it possible to search a particular address in the 1851 census? I have been told this is possible but cannot seem to find out how? I’m interested in who was resident at 8 Church Lane in St Giles in the Fields ( now Soho ) as I’m hoping this was my ancestors. Thanks for any advice

Oh my god! We’re all these families living in 8 church lane??
I believe my ancestors were Irish immigrants and I know this area of Soho was predominantly inhabited by Irish but that astonishing, I’m pretty sure thus wasn’t a huge house either? Thank you for your help. It’s sad that I don’t know where they moved to though. Xx

Oh, bother, so it is!
I thought I was seeing the age 1, but of course it was the volume number, and the age wouldn't show on FreeBMD anyway. Another senior moment.

Hello Yes Patrick / father died New Year’s Eve of Typhoid sadly leaving wife Bridget with 3 sons. I have found a similar family in 1851 census living in Barrett’s court but the widow is a Catherine not Bridget? But I can’t find a Bridget Madden / widow in 1851 census so I’m stumped!

Debra (and anyone coming to this puzzle for the first time) -
There's already been a lot of research and discussion about the Bridget/Catherine question on your other thread - link posted above by Alviegal.
Best to keep to that thread, to avoid duplication of effort by the helpers, and also for ease of seeing what's already been found or discounted.

Yes, but once you'd told us the names of the people you hoped to find, we inevitably tried to find them for you.
We like a challenge!

I can see from ticked records that I've looked before, but there is a problem this is the one with Catherine

Help Rambling Rose Thank you - the MCmarra is new information so thank you - I’m going to order these certificates x I’m not sure if Bridget and Catherine were maybe sisters and are of the same surname? Given they had strong Irish accents as both appear to come from Cork this might have been a pronunciation issue ? I wonder if it is possible to find out who was living at 8 Church lane in December in 1847 as this might reveal what other children were living there? This might also untangle the mystery of whether these are the same or two different families? Not sure if one can find out who was living at an address between the census though, does anyone know if this might be possible please

I have just checked my records and the Patrick Madden / Marta is not them as this child died aged 10 months old in 1849 So it’s looking likely that it’s the CARLIN / CARLON family in some way connected I have two marriage certificates / banns for Catherine to PATRICK MADDON 1833 in and patrick MADDEN to Bridget CARLON in 1836 So I’m struggling to untangle which are my GGGG grandparents and just do not know how I can solve this mystery

Hi Rambling Rose I have just done a search for James Madden born 1837 but your reference above has not come up? Please can you clarify how you came by this birth record - that would be most helpful thank you

If you're looking on FreeBMD, the surname has been mis-transcribed:
Births Sep 1837 (>99%) Mudden James St. Giles &c St. George 1 21
The record RR posted, giving mother's maiden surname was from the GRO site. You have to register, but it's free to use, and gives English and Welsh births (with mms) 1837-1918, and deaths (with age at death) 1837-1957
