Thye were married in June quarter 1887, and Alice was born in the September quarter 1887 ................
servants were not allowed to be married back then (even though many cooks were called by the honorific "Mrs")
It looks as though they did not want to lose their jobs, so Marian managed to conceal the marriage AND the child.

Thank you, Alice was my granddads mother she died when he was about 10/11 he never spoke about it as he blamed his father for her death, so very little is known about his family

There are a lot of Rowes in St German, and they all use the same name

the death I posted is for the james born 1857 st.germans just to let susan know as she did say james 1857 she had the wrong james
the one born in 1863 could have been born to the same parents and they named him after the one that died in 1857
